The Skyline Gondola has been taking visitors to the crest of Bob's Peak since 1967. Jump on board the steepest cable-car line in the Southern Hemisphere and find yourself whisked up the side of the mountain for the perfect view of Queenstown and the magnificent surrounding landscape. Bob's Peak is also a great place for hiking, mountain biking, and especially paragliding.
Regardless of the weather, the journey in the large gondola cars is always comfortable and provides a 220-degree view of beautiful Queenstown. You can also watch the mesmerising descent of the paragliders starting from Bob's Peak and slowly flying down into the valley.
The vista from the peak makes for a great photo opportunity and you’ll also find a number of sports on offer up here, including hiking, mountain biking, bungy jumping, and a range of other adventure activities. The 360-degree view takes in Ben Lomond, Lake Wakatipu, and Queenstown and the sunset from here is especially spectacular.
Give your trip a cultural element with a visit to one of the intimate performances of the traditional Maori battle dance, the Haka, on top of Bob's Peak. There’s only room for 77 guests at each show so it's best to make a reservation.
Another reservation worth making is the one for the Skyline restaurant at the top of the gondola ride. This can be bundled in with your cable-car ticket.
There are buses going from Queenstown to the foot of the mountain, where there are also a limited number of parking spots available. The Skyline Gondola journeys up the mountain every day of the year.
