Located in the province of Uusimaa, the town of Siuntio has around 6,100 inhabitants, and is well known for its arable landscapes and medieval buildings. There are many fine mansions to admire on your holiday in Siuntio. Finland's national author, Aleksis Kivi, lived there for many years and you will find many places related to his life. If you prefer exploring the wonders of nature, then Siuntio is the area for you. Start with a walk to the central Fanjunkars Croft. Aleksis Kivi lived there between 1864-1871, and it was there that he wrote his masterpiece, Seven Brothers. Visit the croft's museum to see original Fanjunkars artefacts and objects that once belonged to Aleksis Kivi.
Any holiday in Siuntio is not complete without a visit to the nearby village of Bollstad on Lake Tjusträsk, where Kivi was a regular visitor. Another interesting spot to visit is the island of Svinö. Take time also to admire the fertile valleys and high cliffs of the local countryside.
You can book a low-cost holiday in Siuntio by exploring its churches and mansions, some of which date back to the Middle Ages. St. Peter's Church is a grey-stone building dating back to the late-15th century, and its ceiling is decorated with legends of saints and Bible stories. You should also visit the Siuntio Homestead Museum where the exhibits include objects once used by local peasants. Most local mansions are privately owned, but Suitia Manor and Sjundby Mansion are spectacular even from the outside.
To spend time outdoors, visit the nature park at Siuntio Spa or follow the Kirkonkylä cultural path to the Bronze Age cairns in Krejansberget. Golf lovers will love the greens at Pickala Golf. Siuntio is easily reached by public transport from Helsinki, with weekday services to the central railway station. Travelling is easiest by car, as the local bus services offer only limited services.
