The property was ok and one member of staff, a young lady was always pleasant and helpful. She moved me to another room when the heaters didn't work and I spent all night in the room in the cold until the next day. I informed 2 other ladies in the morning and they weren't sympathetic and told me that the maintenance man would be in at 8am. That afternoon when the pleasant lady came on her shift she told me that no one has requested for the heating to be checked so my room was still cold. She followed me to the room and couldn't believe how cold it was. After she turned the radiators on they still didn't work so she moved me to the other room immediately.

my mum stayed here with her friend as she had an hospital appointment and loved the place

Very charming boutique hotel in the heart of the surrounding neighborhood of the University of Sheffield. Only downside is lack of a lift, but the rooms are clean and updated with modern appliances whilst still maintaining the old-world charm of the original building. I'd stay here again! Very nice, welcoming, and professional staff.

When booking directly with the hotel be very careful, as staff on reception do not listen and therefore take your bookings down incorrectly. When I checked out of the hotel, they said I had not handed my key card in or indeed checked out, which I had done, all they had to do was look at their CCTV to verify this. Because they had not checked me out when they should of done, they charged me for that night as well. I only discovered this as i had booked in for a further 2 nights at their reception, which i now wanted to cancel due to a bereavement, however when I emailed them, they said they had no booking for my next 2 night stay, however their staff had taken £160 from my debit card. The manager i spoke to did not want to hear the correct chain of events she was just focused on me being charged for the night i NEVER booked. They took my money for a service i never requested.

I sympathise with your frustration, however I would like to clarify our version of the events that occurred during your stay with us. Your original booking was for 2 nights (6th-8th), which you extended at reception for an additional 3 nights (8th-11th) and then you extended again on the 10th for 2 nights (11th-13th) for the 160 you paid at reception. We did not take any money for a service not requested - you paid this on our card machine with the receptionist for the additional nights. You then emailed on the 12th asking to cancel your additional nights. We informed you that we would not be able to refund you for the Friday night (11th) as you had not informed us you were checking-out and no longer needed the room. We refunded you 80 for the night you had booked, regardless of the fact we have a 24 hour cancellation policy. We do apologise if there has been a miscommunication, however we strongly believe we followed your instructions and then kindly refunded you despite being against our policy to do so. Disappointing

The reception staff were very helpful and the dining room staff member too. But: I found the room very dark - the dark aubergine colour scheme for the walls and the carpet made it darker and the window made smaller by the wooden frame around it did not help. I think that the bathroom had recently had a makeover and was very nice but could have done with a shelf both over the basin or to one side and/or in the shower for my stuff. As it was, there was little room on the basin and things kept falling into the basin itself risking falling down the plughole. There was no toilet brush and the toilet roll holder was rusty. I do not find memory foam mattresses comfortable - a personal view - so my sleep was broken. The hotel is old/ quirky and it's easy to get lost but there were very few signs. The lack of sockets by the bed or even an extension cord from the nearest socket was unhelpful. The restaurant was closed (except for breakfast) so I had to go out for supper. As a woman on her own, I found this daunting. The receptionist tried but had nothing to recommend locally and I set off into the rain in hope which was not fulfilled by a disappointing meal in the nearby Vietnamese restaurant. Breakfast in the hotel was disappointing: sliced bread was on offer together with stale undercooked croissants from at least the day before. There was no fresh fruit or plain yoghourt offered just sweetened fruit yoghourt and small packets of cereal but e.g. no granola.

It is naturally disappointing to hear you did not enjoy your stay in regards to the cleanliness and comfort of your room. We shall be taking the comments in regards to the décor on board as I would like to update you that we are currently under renovation in which has begun with replacing all of the bedroom doors and upgrading the locks to key cards. In response to the restaurant, we do not advertise on our online platforms to have one available on site although we do offer a pizza service that is displayed within reception if you were not wanting to explore the local area. I would like to apologise for the croissants that you have expressed were dry and stale as please be rest assured these are cooked fresh every morning, however we shall have a look at different ways to display them in order to keep them fresh throughout the breakfast service. I would like to thank you for your comments and for bringing the above issues to our attention as your feedback is fundamental to us.Kind regards,

Great hotel marred by unexpected parking fees

I like this hotel for its convenience to the university of Sheffield and to down town. It is an older hotel, so also has lots of character which I also like. The only downside I would say is the cost of parking. These costs should clearly be included on the booking website as it is an unwelcome surprise when you book a place and find that you have a much higher bill than anticipated.
