The sun is said to shine in Serfaus for longer than anywhere else in Tirol, and the atmosphere here is accordingly cheerful. Visit this ski resort on a plateau overlooking the Inn Valley.
Serfaus makes up part of the wider 1,100-acre (450-hectare) Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski region. Ski comfortably between all three villages or use the lifts and shuttles to get around. The combined areas have 132 miles (212 kilometers) of downhill runs and 39 lifts, belts and ski tows. They also include a snowy racetrack and kid-friendly areas for young snow explorers. These slopes are best for intermediate skiers. Snowboarders can have a grand time too. Try mini-snowmobiling and snow-tubing.
In the summer, when alpine wildflowers are in bloom, access all of these areas with a “Super-Summer-Card.” This is the perfect time to hike to your heart’s content, go rafting or even explore the mountain trails on a Segway.
Bring the kids to Adventure World Serfaus, a theme park focused on waterways. Kids can play with water wheels, construct mini dams and even try panning for gold. See adorable marmots playing outside their little caves. To soar above the pine trees, take a trip on the thrilling Serfauser Sauser, a high-speed zip-line ride between Sunliner and Komperdell stations.
Visit the special ski area for kids at the Kinderschneealm in Serfaus, which offers kid-style adventure and obstacle courses, with children’s restaurants as well. Parents can relax in an on-site hammock and enjoy the winter sunlight.
The Dorfbahn Serfaus is one of the shortest underground train lines in the world. This unique air cushion funicular doesn’t have a driver. It’s an interesting way to get around, especially for transportation enthusiasts. For extra adventure head to the X-Trees high ropes and climbing course to experience the magic of these alpine surroundings from high in the treetops.
Serfaus and its neighboring villages have multiple spas and wellness facilities to help you rejuvenate after long days exploring the slopes. The area is about an hour’s drive from Innsbruck’s airport.
