Really enjoyed our stay. Great pub and lovely owners that made sure me and my dog Begbie felt very welcome. The room was extremely comfortable and clean exactly what we needed after a long day in the hills. Super friendly locals and good food even threw in a extra sausage with my breakfast for the pooch. Very good value as well 10/10 stay and would definitely recommend.
Small family hotel, staff is very friendly room view was excellent!
Food quality is excellent, only suggested improvements is more variety on food options.
Room a bit tired but doesn't detract from the enoyment of the stay. Room and bathroom spacious and the bed was comfortable, perfect for after hiking up Scafell Pike. Good, hearty food and friendly staff. Perfect for what we needed.
Really enjoyed our weekend here. Staff are really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. We had a meal and it was lovely. Breakfast was cooked just how we like it. It was a good base for exploring the area too.

Hotel was very comfortable room was quite looking out over the garden. Staff very friendly manager Clive & Mel extremely helpful
Would definately stay again if in the area
This was a business trip and the pub was the closest B&B, I found the staff fantastic always eager to help in anyway they could the owner of the pub was first class this coupled with great food and a good range of bears on draft made my stay excellent. I would fully recommend both the B&B as well as the pub first class many thanks Dave.

The place its self was absolutely fine, easy parking, clean and nice staff.
We had spoken to the hotel before booking and had put a note in our booking that we would need a shower we could step into. This was not allocated. We were given a room with a sunken bath so we were unable to use this for mobility reasons. When we asked on arrival they said it was not possible to change rooms and it wasn’t on the booking. It was! We were there before check in and had lunch in the pub. Spoilt our stay.
Clive and mel couldnt of been anymore helpful. We even arrived later than we was meant to be and was running late to our afternoon tea and train journey. Clive offer to take us to the station. Then evening dinner was lovely. And breakfast was yummy. Would definitely go back.

Disliked: Room comfort
Dated interior and uncomfortably warm rooms.
The Stanley Hotel has a dated interior and is in need of modernising. On arrival our room was very warm, almost unbearable during the night, sure the window could be opened, but due to being on a busy main road had to be kept closed at night.
The staff are friendly enough and the garden area is lovely.
Breakfast was perfectly acceptable; choice of cereal, yoghurts and a selection of cooked food.
Overall it was ok, but not sure that I'd return again.
I pre paid my stay here as gold member.
When I arrived the place stank of cigarettes and the premium room was absolutely filthy.
Thick dust and splatters all over the walls and the woodwork into the bathroom was full of smears and possibly make up.
This place refused me refund and I had to find alternate accommodation at the last minute and pay again: I am still disputing this with hotels.com and I will now be taking this up with environmental health.
The best thing was the pretty flowers in window boxes. Check the room description carefully before booking. Rooms did not compare favourably to the photos on website. Breakfast options limited. Only served between 9 and 10am. Not much in continental option . Basically ceral and a couple of poor quality yogurts. Full breakfast adequate, bacon was nice, sausage not so nice. Only other options were poached or scrambled eggs on toast. If we hadn't already had had a long journey and had more miles to travel next day we would have just kept. Wont be back.

Never Again
After a 13 mile hike up the fells we checked in had a refreshing pint, friendly staff, got to room not so small, bed quite firm and comfyn small tv and had to tune in, only enough brew stuff for couple of brews, we always take our own anyhow, no biscuits tho, no courtesy shampoos or shower gels, so after little rest shower and change we went down to bar for some food, we both had the Gammon chips egg and was very happy with it, had a couple more drinks then back to room, after long day we settled to sleep about 9pm...or so we expected to...
About 11pm the room next to us became occupied, we thought it may have been a room for staff, As from the noises, loud talking, what we thought was hair dryers, what we thought was a blender being used, the inconsiderate noise lasted 2 hours finally got quiet at 1am
4am their alarm wend off...it all started again....I realised they were not speaking english, it was an ethnic language, there was about 4-6 in a room for 2 people, the hairdryer was an air pump for air mattresses...the blender was the rooms saniflow system, the walls are very very thin, so we was up at 4am with a constant barrage of noise from the next room, which has obviously been booked and all crowded into the room late at night just to save a few quid, breakfast was not served till 9am which is ridiculous, lucky we had no hike planned, we saw the group of men loading their van so we decided to head home at 6am my GF gave them a piece of her mind on the car park
Everyone was lovely and made myself my husband and our dog princess very welcome, breakfast was yum, room was lovely and the view was nice . Perfect base for us to go and visit our friends .
Lovely hotel, friendly owners and staff. Dog friendly . Food was delicious.
Only 2 downsides:
TV was very small, bathroom could do with a lick of paint and a good decobwebbing
