Travel to the top of this spectacular mountain to dine in its revolving restaurant, which once featured in a James Bond movie.

Ski, hike, take in fantastic views and dine in a mountaintop revolving restaurant when you travel up the Schilthorn. At 9,744 feet (2,970 meters) above sea level, this is the highest mountain in the Bernese Alps north of the Sefinenfurgge Pass.

Reach the peak by taking a cable car from the village of Murren, which sits below the mountain. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the summit, take your time to enjoy the views. Look over the Bernese Alps and the Jura mountains up to the Black Forest and beyond. You can see spectacular peaks such as the Titlis and Jungfrau, with Mont Blanc just visible in the distance.

The Schilthorn is the Bernese Alps’ highest altitude destination for winter sports and there is usually snow on the ground well into spring. Here you can ski, snowboard, snow hike and go speeding down toboggan runs.

Have a break from your snow-based exertions with a meal at the Piz Gloria restaurant. The revolving restaurant takes about 45 minutes to rotate in a complete circle, offering stunning alpine views no matter where you are sitting. Piz Gloria has a prominent place in movie history, because it starred as a research clinic belonging to the villainous Ernst Blofeld in the 1969 Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

While you are here, browse the restaurant’s James Bond exhibition, which features details of how it was made, movie clips and the original screenplay. Ride the helicopter simulator and recreate the bobsleigh chase scene from the movie.

Schilthorn isn’t only a winter destination. During the summer, go on one of the well-marked hiking routes through the alpine region. They include the Children’s Adventure Trail, a 1-hour trek suitable for the whole family. From June to August, go to the Skyline View Platform for the summer sunsets.

Murren is the gateway to the Schilthorn and can be reached by train or cable car ride from Lauterbrunnen.
