Charming and unforgettable
Posted 26 May 2018 on HotelsNot easy to find but It was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS staying in this 17th century manor and sampling delicious, authentic Sardinian dishes via the dégustation menu. It was rainy during our time here and we were content to just settle in and enjoy the wonderful charm of the building and later the sophisticated dining experience. This is a family initiative where you will witness how proud Sardinians are of their country, their history and their cuisine. Factor it in to your itinerary. Well worth the detour from the beaches!

An unmissable romantic stop in a beautiful village
Posted 2 Jan 2018 on HotelsIl gruccione is a delightful place located in one of the most charming Sardinian villages. It is managed with love and care, and despite successive expansions into nearby buildings it has kept its secluded, old-fashioned and romantic atmosphere. Rooms are all different but recently redone and nicely appointed. Ours was nice although on the small side. Amenities could also be easily improved at little cost (no shampoo was provided for instance). The Restaurant is excellent value, providing refined variations of dishes made with local products at an affordable price. The wine list is inexplicably limited despite the presence of a knowledgeable and kind sommelier. Breakfast is good.

A real Sardinian gem!
Posted 30 Jul 2017 on HotelsLovely old buildings that are worth seeing just for the atmosphere, and the service makes this a great place to stay while exploring the beautiful and fascinating countryside. The restaurant is a real gem--fine breakfast offering, but the dinners are worth the stay by themselves--gourmet from start to finish with excellent local ingredients and wine choices!

Superb food, lovely buildings
Posted 14 Jul 2017 on HotelsStaying here was the highlight of our road trip round Corsica. Great food, lovely staff, fantastic buildings. Must admit, initially we were disappointed not to be staying in the main building - but the small garden, with birds & view, right outside our room in one of the other buildings, more than made up for the short walk back for dinner and breakfast, through the historic village.

Authentic experience in an historic mansion

Pros: The people, the food, and the wine.
Cons: It would be nice if there were air conditioning and a place to keep cold drinks as things warm up from mid Jue through August.
This hotel has been family run since the 19th century and offers a complete refuge to people like us who traveled by car and to hikers and those traveling by bike. An ample cafeteria style breakfast is included. As an extra you can sign up nightly for a five-course family style dinner with an amazing local wine list. The food is excellent, served family style with the rest of the guests and provides an opportunity for cultural exchange. Our GPS led us down to the front door of this venue on a street that was so narrow we wondered if we'd get stuck. The road was a two-way road, so be prepared. When we arrived, a large solid wood locked doorway greeted us. Once we pushed the access button, we were greeted by the current matriarch of the family who spoke some English and showed us to our rooms. The room was good sized, looked over the courtyard, but had no refrigeration facilities and was not airconditioned. However, it was comfortable in every other way. There was no laundry service or other fancy amenities, but if you wanted a little ice you could go to the kitchen and ask for it. Although Santu Lussurgiu may not be a city you would go out of you way to visit, it is an interesting and historic cityThe location of this hotel allows travel to many interesting places in Sardinia for bikers, hikers and those like us who explore by car. We enjoyed the family, those that waited on us and the hotel very much. We would love to visit again, but would not do so in the summer

Gorgeous property and delicious food
Posted 24 Oct 2016 on HotelsThis property took my breath away - it was gorgeous. Dinner was top notch dining. Best breakfast I had in all of Italy. There's not much to do / see in the town, but this place is worth a stopover. Take a wander through the town before dinner, and enjoy the amazing breakfast.

A charming hotel in a quaint town
Posted 19 Aug 2016 on HotelsThis is a charming hotel in a renovated 300 year old building. The room was clean and tastefully decorated. This was a tiny town of cultural surprises - we stayed on a Tuesday night and just happened to stumble upon the annual blues festival hosted by the hotel, a chamber music concert in town and some lively action at the local bar. The hotel got extra points for the great breakfast and unique cats. If you are not used to driving down narrow European cobblestone streets you might find the parking a bit tight.

Posted 25 Oct 2018 on Hotels.Un charme fou.
On a vraiment apprécié l'accueil, la disponibilité de Lucilla, et l'esprit sympathique de cette famille qui aime et respecte ces lieux magiques. Un vrai bonheur. Rare.
On espère revenir.
