If you are interested in local community and culture, filling your shopping bags or simply want to enjoy boating in the Oslo Fjord – Sandvika is waiting for you!

In the heart of Vestfjorden, approximately 9 miles from Oslo, you will find Sandvika. If you visit during summer, you should definitely head to Kalvøya. The scenic island can be reached via a suspension bridge and offers beaches, festivals and hiking trails. For those who are more open-minded, the eastern side of the island also offers a dedicated naturist zone.

Board the popular fjord vessels Rigmor and Rigfar to experience the Oslo Fjord. These vessels sail between the islands in Asker and Bærum. If you book a ticket in good time you can also experience Oscarsborg fort, go fishing or enjoy a pirate-themed evening! It is possible to rent the vessels for private events and sail from Kadettangen at the mouth of the River Sandvik.

If you are on a shopping holiday, you have come to the right place. One of the largest shopping centres in the country, Sandvika Storsenter, is just a few minutes’ walk from Sandvika station. Here you can find what your heart desires, with 200 stores and eateries available to choose from.

If you want to experience a slightly unusual museum, you should visit the Emma Hjorth Museum, where you can learn about the history of caring for mental illness in Norway. The museum highlights an essential part of the country’s socio-political history up until the Second World War in the form of photographs, newspaper clippings and its own database.

It is easy to travel to Sandvika from the UK. If you’re flying into Oslo, Sandvika is only an hour away by train, giving you ample opportunity to enjoy the views through the window. There are also regular bus departures from several locations throughout Norway heading towards Sandvika, making it easy to incorporate into a wider tour of the country.

There is plenty to do during a weekend break in Sandvika. However, if the need to visit more urban areas should arise, you will find the capital only a short train ride away.

Women watch out, sketchy men!
"The hotel itself was cosy with no noise. Great room BUT be warned if you are a woman, this area is very sketchy and we did not feel safe to leave the apartment once it was dark outside.
