San Javier is a town in the Murcia region, on the shores of the Mar Menor. In fact, one of the town’s main attractions are the open spaces and islands of the Mar Menor, a series of protected areas that are part of the Natura 2000 Network that covers some 300 acres in San Javier alone. Take advantage of our cheap trips to San Javierand lose yourself in unspoilt nature.
One of these spaces is La Hita beach, a place that’s hugely important for migrating birds, though you don’t need to be a stork or heron to enjoy the beautiful setting. During the months of July and August, when temperatures are around 26ºC, you’ll be glad to take a refreshing dip in the water and then lie back and work on your tan.
San Javier also has its fair share of monuments. The church of San Francisco Javier is one highlight, erected on an old 17th century shrine. In fact, the current centre of the town was built around this place of worship. Head inside to check out the exquisite altarpieces and sculptures for yourself, as well as the wonderful pulpit. Behind the church you’ll find the Parish Museum.
The Ethnological Museum is another must-see, a time capsule that will transport you to the very beginnings of San Javier. You’ll see what life was like long before the advent of modern technology, with clothing and tools that were used to work the field and much more. Top off your package deal to San Javier by taking a picture of yourself next to a real plane in the inner courtyard.
