Piece of history
Posted 19 Oct 2016
Pros: The historical aspect of the home. Comfortable bed
Cons: Very loud creaky floors in the upstairs. We worried we would wake everyone when we returned at night.
Location: The villa is in a very affluent neighborhood about 10-15 minutes of downtown Salzburg. Easy can ride in costing about 12 euro
The hotel is the actual family Von trapp villa. We did not know this until we walked inside. The villa is about a 10-15 minute cab ride to downtown or to an attraction like the castle. Walking would take awhile. We had a car but left it at the villa because parking is difficult downtown Salzburg.
The outside of the home is very impressive. It is surrounded by a huge white wall. The home is huge and the lawn is very well manicured. Inside the house is a ton of old Von trapp treasures to include their original benches.
We stayed in the daughter Maria's room. It was a typical 'room' with a high ceiling. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a little small but not uncomfortable. You have to take into account this a joke from 1920. Although the place was modernized it is still old so rooms aren't huge. The owner was the receptionist and very helpful. Every am they called us a cab. The place was so amazing and a must for any sound of music fan.

Actual Von trapp home
Posted 17 Oct 2016
Pros: The historical aspect of it.
Cons: The breakfast was a bit pricey for what was offered.
Location: Location is out from main downtown but $15 cab ride is not bad. We left our car and took a cab both days because it was easier. A bubble wash is also
We didn't realize this was the actual home of the Von trapps until we pulled in. The home itself is amazing and very well decorated. There are Von trapp family artifacts everywhere and it is very cool. The rooms are well done and we stayed in Maria the daughters room. The bathroom is a bit dated but that is the appeal of the place. The bed was very comfortable. The owners were the ones working the desk and were very delightful.

Staying at the Villa Trapp is definitely something for any Sound of Music lover and it's a great opportunity to learn about the actual Von Trapp history. We had a little bit of a negative first impression when we tried to call the property ahead of time to inquire about late check in. I left a message when it wasn't their office hours and then called again during office hours and no one picked up. We ended up cutting our plans in town short so we could make sure to check in in the 3p-7p window. I will say it's really inconvenient to stay here unless you have a car or are prepared to pay for a cab regularly. Christopher was great at helping us call a cab and schedule one ahead of time for us and our early train. We stayed in the Sound of Music room and it was beautiful, but I admit I was afraid of bathing in the claw foot tub because every time I got in, I feared it would collapse under my weight. It's an old house so the piping is old too so everything took awhile to drain...there's definitely no rushing here. Overall we had a good time and were thrilled to learn some more about the real Von Trapp family.

Excellent staff, friendly visitors
Posted 21 Sep 2016Because they were booked up, I stayed in the smallest cheapest room here, and found it charming! The sound of rain in the pines outside the huge windows, the comfy bed and pillows, and the inviting couches in the salon, all made the rain somehow romantic...an easy walk to trains and bus, but a getaway feeling. There was an opera singer staying there, and her impromptu Sound of Music on the staircase, echoed thru the halls like a welcome spirit...

Great experience

Pros: The hotel did a great job at creating a comfortable hotel layout while still maintaining the feel and history of the Von Trapp family
Cons: Nothing
Location: The house is in a rural area just outside of the city of Salzburg, though there are multiple nearby restaurants with great Austrian food
To start, we were upgraded to Maria's Suite upon arrival. The suite was beautiful, and was adorned with photos and items from the Von Trapp Family. Informational placards around the house helped give light into how the family really lived, a great experience for any Sound of Music fan. The accomodations were fantastic, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious.

Atmosphere and Character
Posted 28 Jun 2016 on HotelsA must stay for the Sound of Music fan with a car. There is free parking and free wifi (which was slow). We were upgraded to the Sound of Music Suite. A huge room with lovely garden views. There is no air conditioning in the house, but they gave us a fan to use. Lots of character (creaky floors) and Trapp family photos on the walls.

Loved it!

Pros: The staff were very friendly. They upgraded our room. It was also very close to the train station.
Location: We were able to walk to a nearby restaurant, which was also very good.
I don't remember what room we booked, but we were upgraded to Maria's Suite. Let me just say - loved it! It was so huge and roomy in the sitting room and the bedroom. The grounds are peaceful and picturesque. My daughter and I also loved the breakfast the next morning. I hated to leave Salzburg, and I really hated to leave this hotel.

The wonder of the Trapp Family home
Posted 1 Jan 2016 on Lastminute
Pros: Authentic set up and history
We enjoyed our stay at the Villa Trapp, the building and the surrounding land are like a scene from a movie. We were able to take the S3 local train into Salzburg HBF day, the train is half hourly, but no issue. We visited the Raschhofer's Rossbrau which was an easy 20 minute walk for a great pub meal. Salzburg itself has a lot on offer toio, with beautiful scenery and history along with the sites from the Sound of Music movie!
