Typical rural French hotel, with excellent cuisine
Posted 3 Sep 2018
Pros: The welcome and the meals! In fact there was noting to dislike about the hotel. We got what we paid for - and more!
Cons: Perhaps the room decoration could be a bit smarter, but then, we do not spend much time in our hotel room!
Location: Aubterre Village - not disabled friendly - with its river for water activities. Markets at Riberaux and Chalais. Chateau at Chalais. Walking /cycling
Warm welcome and made to feel comfortable. Bedroom cool, thanks to the shutters, and comfortable. Bathroom reasonably well equipped. But, the meals, taken generally on the terrace, were excellent. Ample breakfasts with local ham ad cheese with croissants, rolls and jam or honey - the sunflower honey was excellent. Tea and or coffee, of course! Dinners also very satisfying with local produce in abundance.
A truly enjoyable and relaxing few days in a sleepy town in the French countryside . .

Getaway
Posted 6 Aug 2017 on HotelsQuite area, hotel a bit noisy since rooms are thin walled. Bring earplugs. Clean room but small. Owners were trying to smile but seemed busy.

Lovely area...not impressed with this hotel!
Posted 3 Aug 2016 on HotelsMy partner and I stayed in a double room in this hotel for 3 nights and would unfortunately not recommend it. The staff were not very welcoming and the room was dark and dingy with a post it note over the keyhole to an adjoining room! Very run down condition and noisy at night, mainly because the rooms were tiny and everything was old and creaking. The room also smelt musty with cobwebs. We were made to leave the key on an unoccupied desk when we went out and when returning home about 1am after a wedding found we had to wait about 20 minutes to be let in! The local area is very picturesque and definitely worth a visit but I would advise to seek alternative accommodation!

You wont be able to use the hotel...
Posted 4 Sep 2015 on HotelsArrived on the Friday and everything was fine. We asked what time they stayed open until and they replied 'anytime, you leave your key on hook'. We went out and returned at 3 in the morning (wedding). The doors were locked and nobody answered the door all evening. There are no other hotels in reasonable walking distance, so we had to stay outside until half seven in the morning when they opened the door. The key was exactly where it should have been. The following day, when it was 35 degrees, we were told they have a big gathering taking place at the hotel and the pool would be closed at midday. That was strike 2. On the Sunday, we went out to the river beach and returned at around miday to have a shower and get changed. The hotel was shut again with a note saying they would be back at 6pm. For us, this was three strikes. Other things to note, you cannot eat or drink around the little pool unless you buy it from their kitchen. I would not recommend this hotel, walk 30 mins down the road for a nice on on the square for less money.
