Whether you want to see exotic animals or enjoy a stroll through colorful gardens, this park transports you from the bustle of Ho Chi Minh City.

Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden is Vietnam’s largest zoo and one of the oldest zoos in the world. The park is home to more than a hundred species of plants and animals. Visit the creatures that call this place home or enjoy a peaceful walk through the fragrant gardens.

The zoo is home to big cats, slithering reptiles and everything in between. Creatures from nearly every continent are represented, however, be aware that some of the zoo’s facilities are not well maintained. Stop by the monkey enclosure and the bird aviary, which are two of the zoo’s most popular exhibits. Head to the northwest corner of the zoo and relax with a picnic on the grass under the shady trees. In this area, you can also feed giraffes and take the kids to the small amusement park.

The Botanical Garden is the largest attraction of the park and was established by Mr Louis Pierre when he arrived in .1865. Enter by the gate and find yourself immediately transported into a tranquil world that seems miles away from the noisy bustle of the city outside.

Wander along the tree-lined paths or take a leisurely stroll through the plant conservation area. Make sure to see the magnificent orchid garden. Small lakes filled with colorful fish connect the zoo and the gardens.

The park also contains the Museum of Vietnamese History, which traces events in Vietnam’s past from the prehistoric era to present day. Exhibits of historical artifacts and treasures are accompanied by helpful descriptions translated into a number of languages. Visit the monument dedicated to Vietnamese people killed during World War I, which stands outside the museum.

Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is open daily. There is a small entrance fee which gives you access to the entire park. It is conveniently located in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City and is within easy walking distance of most of the city’s main attractions.
