Sagunto’s old town is home to several monuments from different periods and styles that make for an interesting historical and archaeological heritage.

Your holidays in Sagunto will let you discover the area’s rich legacy, such as the Roman theatre, which dates from the 1st century and has room for 8,000 spectators. Thanks to the way it was designed, the acoustics of the outdoor shows are excellent. In fact, every summer it plays stage to the music, dance and art festival “Sagunto a escena”.

The castle of Sagunto, located on a hill that protects the city, offers an impressive panoramic view of the city. In the city walls you’ll notice the remains of buildings left by the various inhabitants that have passed through the area – Iberians, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians. Top off your visit at the Sagunto History Museum, which brings together objects found in various excavations in Sagunto.

Cheap trips to Sagunto are just the opportunity you were waiting for to explore the city centre, where you’ll find all sorts of monuments. If you're into visiting religious sites, then you’ll definitely want to see the Ermita de la Sangre, a hermitage built at the beginning of the 17th century the Natividad de Nuestra Señora parish church, which conserves a beautiful altarpiece also from the 17th century and the smaller La Magdalena Hermitage.

Strolling through the streets of the Sangre Vieja neighbourhood, you’ll soon find yourself in the Jewish Quarter, where the synagogue used to stand. The only part of it that remains to this day is the original archway of Calle del Castillo. This entry with a semicircular arch is called the Portal de la Judería – the “Jewish Quarter Gate”. Accessed by a staircase, you can go down to the basement of the old Jewish temple, where you’ll find the ritual bath, or mikveh.
