Whether you are a beginner, an expert skier looking for fresh challenges or somewhere in between, Rusutsu Resort has it covered. Indulge in some of the best tree-skiing in Japan and participate in a range of snow-based activities, including snow rafting, horseback riding and dog sledding.
The resort has 37 runs spread across three peaks. A good place for beginners is on West Mountain’s green slopes, such as the White Lover and Family runs. Also on the mountain is a tree run area. If there are children in your party, take them over to the Crayon Shinchan Kids Park, where they can ride on snow bikes and participate in numerous activities. Very young children can be left with the qualified nursery teachers in the resort’s day-care center.
If you are an intermediate level skier, swoop down the red slopes of East Mountain. There are also red runs on Mount Isola. At 3,261 feet (994 meters), this is the highest point in the resort. Experienced skiers may want to challenge themselves on the aptly named Heavenly Ridge black run.
There are lots more reasons to come to Rusutsu. Go on a snowshoeing adventure through forests and across mountains, and navigate your way around a snowfield orienteering course. Saddle up for a scenic trek on horseback. There is also a horse riding course for beginners. Learn how to handle a snowmobile and then put your newly acquired knowledge into action by traversing the resort's snowfields. For those with a need for speed, try snow rafting and zip across the snow in a rubber boat.
Rusutsu Resort is on Hokkaido, the northernmost of the four main islands that make up the Japanese mainland. The resort is a 90-minute drive from several major cities, including Chitose, Tomakomai and Sapporo, the island’s capital. Along with luxurious hotels and restaurants, the resort features lots of indoor activities and entertainment, including cheese and ice cream making, a climbing wall and fitness gym.
