Good base for exploring Istria

Posted 11 Aug 2018
Pros: Owners were fantastic hosts. Quiet location but easy walk to old town.
Cons: More kitchen utensils and crockery.
Location: Head south of the down to the forest park area for best beaches. Both of the big water parks in Istria are great - can't go wrong!
Travelling as a family 2 adults + 3 kids (7,10,12). Finding the property is simple - look for the Tri Volta restaurant and it is directly above. Warm welcome from the owners (who live in another apartment in the property) and throughout the holiday they were hospitable and fantastic with the kids. Apartment has two bedrooms (each with a double and a single bed), kitchen and bathroom, so slept family of five comfortably. There is a/c in one of the bedrooms which kept that room cool but second bedroom is warmer - not a problem once acclimatised! Furnishings and kitchen utensils are basic so if you are planning on doing a lot of cooking might need to ask the hosts for additional pots and pans (which I'm sure they would provide). Restaurant below is popular but quiet - absolutely no problems with noise in the evenings. You get a table and chairs on a balcony shared with the owners which is pleasant in the mornings and evenings. Parking is just over the road but no problems pulling up outside to drop off suitcases etc (it's a quiet residential street). Rovinj old town centre easily walk-able. The better beaches are a bit more of a trek and we ended up driving to the more convenient parking (only a five minute drive). Made a great base for exploring Istria but if you are more into relaxing away the holiday at the property you might want to look for somewhere with more amenities.
