Very serene and very pleasant surrounds. Could do with pathway lighting to cabins. Hot water for shower and basin takes too long to heat up wasting a very large amount of time and water. A lot of bugs and insects in cabin of night, no top windows only flywire which were torn in places. Other than that, a very warm welcome.

Hi Thanks for your review. It would have been nicer to discuss these things when we were chatting. We checked your cabin and found no torn netting on any screen, however we did find native bees trying to make a new nest in the outside timbers, so thanks for this info we will now remove these harmless natives. We did mention on checkin and that the hot water that takes a minute to reach your room when others are not using it. The water is not wasted as we use grey water for the garden, sadly you stayed in the car upon arrival and would have missed that info though. Garden lighting is not used to avoid disturbing the wildlife, which was also mentioned upon checking in and the need for a torch. Thanks for staying with us we enjoyed having you. We also really appreciated the lovely comment you made personally to us, about how much more you preferred staying in our rural location rather than staying in town.

Wonderful stay

We had a fantastic stay at Mungumby Lodge. There are lots of beautiful wildlife to see in the immediate vicinity. The place is comfortable/relaxing and the hosts are very friendly. I would certainly recommend and stay again. The only thing… the breakfast is a bit pricy ($19) for what’s offered. It would be nice to have some selection of meats in addition to the egg/fruit/yogurt/cereal that’s offered.

Many thanks for your review and glad to hear that you had a fantastic stay at Mungumby Lodge. We are surprised about the breakfast comment? Most guests compliment us on the buffet breakfast as a highlight to their stay (with fresh boiled eggs, Apple & Orange juice, fresh whole and cut fruit, cereals, white & whole meal toasts, soft cheeses, Yoghurt portions, fresh plunger coffee and tea, served with a smile) One of the key reasons breakfast is still offered here. In today’s times our price on breakfast barely covers the wages, food, let alone, gas, power etc. but we provide this even for 2 guests as a service.

It's so far out of town. They advertised free wifi, when they were asked about it. They said they weren't sharing. No signal for your phone. Website says non smokers but the was a couple Rangers smoking anyway. Tiniest bar fridge in the cabin. Nothing too cook with, just a kettle for tea or coffee. Over in the lounge no stove, just a microwave. No tv, no air con if it's gets hot during summer. No ceiling fan on a pedestal one. No heater either for the winter. For the price we paid for 3 nights. Villas all look the same too. Got to be careful you don't get the wrong one. Not worth staying there. Only good thing is, it's nice and quiet. Good place to get away from the noisy city.

EbonyI guess when you and your father walked into our reception stating the only reason you were staying with us, was because your father’s friend had sold his Cooktown house, and you were no longer able to stay there for free? Due to the tone we knew at that point we were in trouble. If your feed back was intended to hurt a hard-working family, it worked. Mungumby Lodge is never going to be for everyone, and nor do we set out to be such. We offer an off-grid experience, not motel rooms. Some people book because they can, our customers do their research and book because they want this environment. We ensure the sales materials clearly explain what our lodge is, and what we offer. We cannot be held to count for third party platforms that are not under our ownership and wish to squeeze us into a box with the other motels and hotels. We try our best, but some sites expect one size fits all.We received your comments via the internet (several platforms cut and paste) the day prior to your departure, yet you could have easily let us know your concerns knowing were here every day. I was saddened to watch you return to the lodge early that very afternoon, enter your room and immediately close the blinds to shut out such a perfect 25C day. Surrounding your cabin were an array of orchids, Ulysses & Birdwing butterflies dancing from flower to flower under a wide open blue sparkling sky to the sound of the waterfalls. Each evening other customers were enjoying a chat around the fireplace and cooking meals at our self-cater BBQ pavilion. You and your father were locked up in your cabin eating microwave Pizza. The house keeping team did not take kindly to the pizza chunks in your beds and biscuit crumbs everywhere, which took us 3 times as long to clean your room each day. I guess we were not the bolt hole you were seeking in town, so not sure why you booked. Especially when this was blatantly clear on all our marketing materials available online? It was because town was booked out. Our rooms are designed to breath and ensure they do not absorb heat. Our utility systems are designed to reduce our carbon foot print and protect the environment. Ebony, we really hope that one day you will open up the curtains to see the beauty of the region in which we all live, and that being active and social brings on a better life.
