Must see! Don’t miss it :)

Posted 7 Jul 2021 on Hotels
A must see! I highly recommend that you come and stay here. The views from our room across the valley were jaw-droppingly beautiful. Our chalet was very spacious and decorated to a high standard. Kitchen had everything you need for self catering. The property was clean and tidy throughout. The team was super friendly and helpful and made us feel very much at home. The tour of the battle sites was informative and really transported us back in time for a slice of Anglo-Zulu history.

Peace perfect peace

Posted 12 May 2018 on Hotels
The most peaceful place we stayed in SA with amazing views and some delicious food delivered to our kitchen area. Access road challenging but just about do-able - we took 25 minutes to cover 5km in a Toyota Corolla - glad it was a hire car an not my own! Paul amazingly knowledgable about the local history (the reason for the visit) and his tour was brilliant. Room beautiful with spiral staircase down to gorgeous bathroom.

If you want to see the battlefield, avoid here

Posted 28 Feb 2018
Pros: Nothing
The highly misleading Expedia website puts Rorke's Drift Hotel Pty Ltd at the top of the page, when you type in Rorke's Drift Hotel, with which Expedia does not have a relationship. I was mislead into booking into Rorke's Drift Lodge, which is down a long, almost impassable, dirt road, consisting of four rooms, disinterested management and is self catering. My friends and family went ballistic when they saw the 'lodge', having just visited the 'hotel', which had plenty of vacancies and was a really great place, easily accessible and close to the battlefields. We stayed at the hotel for a very pleasant stay. Expedia should make it clear it has no relationship with the Rorke's Drift Hotel.

Home from home in the bush

Posted 5 Nov 2017
Pros: It was a home from home in the bush
Cons: Nothing
Our hosts and staff were very accommodating and helpful and the facilities were excellent, the food was fab and Paul was our guide for the Battlefield Tour - very knowledgable and had a fantastic day = even though the weather tried to spoil it! Would recommend staying at Rorke's Drift Lodge to anyone who wants peace and quiet but also comfort and a home from home feel.

Off the beaten track

The lodge is over 20km on a dirt road with the last 5km being a bit rougher but we managed in our small rental car. If you are planning to self cater, as we did, stop in town to get your supplies beforehand. Meals are available but need to be pre ordered, and as locals we found them to be pricey. However, considering where supplies come I can understand why. There is a braai and we used it both nights we were there. Our suite was huge, with a kitchen, lounge, big bedroom and separate shower and toilet. It was clean and bedding was spotless. In fact the bed was so comfortable that we checked the mattress for brand! There are 2 friendly dogs and one accompanied us on a walk above the lodge. We did a full day Battlefield trip with Paul who is very passionate and well informed about the wars. It was interesting but a long day with a lot of information and would probably appeal more to a history buff. I later mentioned this to someone who'd been to the area and they'd done two 1/2 day trips, which would be more relaxing but we didn't have the time to do it that way.
