Cross an ancient bridge that was built in Roman times but still stands today. Stop in the middle to enjoy some of the best views in Córdoba.

The Roman Bridge spreads across the Guadalquivir River in the heart of Córdoba’s historic center. Stroll to the center of the bridge to view the sights of the Old Town and marvel at the long-lasting architecture of this ancient structure. The bridge is set between some of the most famous sights of the city, which makes it a logical stopping point while exploring Córdoba’s landmarks.

Feel history beneath your feet as you step onto the bridge. The crossing point was first built by the Romans under the rule of Emperor Augustus in the 1st century. The Moors extended it in 918, giving the bridge the shape it retains to this day.

Enter beneath the Puerta del Puente, a 16th-century monument that stands over the northern end of the bridge. The classically styled triumphal arch is flanked by four Doric columns on each side.

Amble slowly across the bridge, which is about 820 feet (250 meters) long. The pale sandstone structure is built in the Flemish bond style and curves in 16 irregularly sized arches over the breadth of the river. Find a 17th-century statue of St. Raphael, surrounded by candles, in the middle of the bridge.

Look in either direction once you are in the middle of the bridge. At the southern end stands the medieval fortress of the Calahorra Tower, which now hosts a museum. Look north for the immediately recognizable landmark of the Córdoba Mosque, a spectacular religious building made with different architectural styles and now featuring a cathedral at its center.

Come back to the bridge at night. The mosque-cathedral and the bridge are both illuminated as darkness falls, creating a magical and romantic atmosphere.

Drive to the mosque and park on one of the nearby streets or use one of the buses running to the foot of the bridge. The Roman Bridge is in the center of Córdoba and can be reached on foot from attractions, such as the Alcazar of Córdoba, in less than 10 minutes. Visit on any day of the week and cross the bridge for free.
