Riverside Park

Explore Hartford’s portion of the Connecticut River at this park. Walk along the Riverside and Sculpture trails, go boating or enjoy a picnic outside.

As you might guess, Riverside Park lies right on the banks of the Connecticut River. This century-old park in Hartford is full of things to see and do. Enjoy the serene surroundings or take on an exciting challenge at the adventure course.

Explore the scenic Connecticut River along the Riverfront Trails. Snaking over 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers), the trails stretch from the Riverfront Boathouse and north toward the town of Windsor. Travel on foot or by bike and watch for eagles, fish and other wildlife.

Stroll south along the river on the Sculpture Walk, which is dotted with beautiful permanent pieces of art. Within 5 minutes, you will reach the Connecticut Science Center.

The Riverfront Boathouse is a fairly new event space. From the boathouse, look for competitive rowers in action on the river. Use the boat launch to put your own craft into the river. Cast your fishing line in and see what you can catch.

Riverside Park has everything that you need for a day of fun for the entire family. Picnic on one of several outdoor tables and grills. Younger visitors gravitate toward the playground. Have a family match on the volleyball courts or football and cricket fields.

Challenge yourself at Riverfront Adventure. Traverse the ropes course, tackle the climbing tower or work with your team to man the dragon boat. This comprehensive program, designed for groups to work on their teamwork and leadership skills, must be reserved in advance of your visit.

The park frequently hosts concerts, plays and other open-air events. During these, food and facilities are always available. Check with the Riverfront Recapture organization to see what upcoming events are on the calendar. Some require buying tickets in advance, while others are free for all.

Although you are surrounded by nature, Riverside Park is actually in the heart of Hartford. You can easily walk to shops and restaurants downtown.

Riverside Park is open from sunrise to sunset. Park your vehicle in one of the many free spaces within the park. Portable toilet facilities are available on-site except during winter months.
