A complete nightmare this hotel is out dated. The sheets had blood stains on them, and it was thick visible mold in the bathroom with bugs crawling around. I talked to staff to try to switch rooms, and the other three rooms had the same problem. I left immediately first thing in the morning.

Phenomenal - staff friendliness, from front desk to cleaning staff. Breakfast is off the charts. Location is perfect, near everything you want to see. Bed is a Florida King… I didn’t even know such thing existed… AC is cold, room is clean. I would absolutely stay again, but not in room 506. see below. I had a party of 11, therefore 3 rooms. They were all slightly different, which is fine, but in room 506 there wasn’t a door to give privacy to the potty user. The reason why there was no door is because one wouldn’t fit. I am not a big person ( 5’3” 130 pounds )and I had to go sideways in order to fit through the opening. My problem was not the privacy actually, was the size of the opening. I felt trapped. I commented to front desk which upon check out, who promptly said “we would have changed your room”. To which I replied: “if only you weren’t fully booked…”

Check in was easy, the room was clean and neat and the area had a lot of options for food and shopping. We felt safe in that area as well, even at night although we turned in at 9pm. So night life might be crazier.

Great Location, but needs improvement.
I was expecting better from the Hotel standard, but it is very basic. Staff are nice, but in need to be more professional. Breakfast good but need review on display and hygiene,,not felt much impressed to see how is maintained. Location perfect but Hotel needs some improvement in training and cleaning to raise the standard.

There might be some minor quibbles but overall I enjoyed staying at Rio Design. Staff was very friendly, the breakfast was generous (but the breakfast room gets really busy on the weekends, best to try to eat early). The location is very good, Copacabana beach is a stone's throw away. There are several shops in the neighbourhood. For the price, you can't beat this hotel.

This hotel is not 4 stars. The location is great, but the room is not so fine, the bed was small and hard, with weird smell. The room was always noisy. The worst was that the lights in the elevator hall would go out unless someone was constantly moving, so many times I had to groping my way through the pitch black elevator hall!

I arrived at 11am but unable to check in until 1pm, normally it’s 2pm. I had my luggage stored and went out for lunch. The hotel is just 2 blocks to Copacabana beach, so I did went there and had my lunch on the beach restaurant, there are multiple choices. I didn’t exchanged money in the airport, I did exchanged it 3 blocks from the hotel. Ask the front desk, they will give you directions for it. Last week it was $1 = 4.7 reals. At the airport it’s only $1=3 reals. I took uber from the airport so my stored credit card was used even the tip. They have taxis at the airport and everywhere in copacobana but I used uber, I feel safe using it. And the ride from the airport to hotel in copacobana was $11, 50 mins drive including traffic. And around copacobana it charges bet $2-4usd. The hotel staff are good, welcomed me and my luggage (i was traveling solo) home for 4 nights. The hotel has great breakfast, many choices. They served from 0630am to 1030am. I just loved the brazilian flan! My room was 1101 on the eleventh floor, kinda quiet has ample space. Bathroom has bidet, feels at home using it. And water pressure is strong, there’s hot and cold water. There are many restaurants around the hotel ane there’s also a small grocery store to buy your water or sodas and snacks. When you get out of the hotel, take left and left and cross the street it will be there. I booked my tours through expedia. And check the weather, it rains alot. Esp if you take the walking tour of the Favela.
