The blinds in the first room i had were awkward to operate and didn't shut out the light efficiently. Cleanliness and comfort were spot on. The themed bar restaurant downstairs is very good.

Nice building in the center of Retford. It is over a resteraunt but there is no noise - food there is OK. Staff very nice. Room had TV but no control. Staff member retuned it so it could be used manually. The light over the bed would not work as the pull switch had been pulled out. Comfortable, clean, quite establishment. Would stay there again.

Clean and comfortable but no service facilities. I only saw a staff member from the Diner downstairs throughout my stay.

it was the worse £180 ive ever spent I think sleeping on a bench would of been better also never mind I bounded round room to room got moved from one room to another because of wasps in the first room moved me to another oh yeah but didn't move me till the morning I had to leave the hotel and stay at my misses house because I am allergic to bees and wasps the next room which was still dirty but spent the night then at 9 o clock got a phone call for the owner asking me to leave the room as someone is going in there today by the way I booked 3 nights here so again I had to move rooms to a room with black mould in the shower hair in the shower it was a mess and was not worth a fiver never mind £180 don't stay here save your money

Fairly Priced

Firstly it's important to point out this hotel was the cheapest in the area by nearly 50% which should be taken into account. However, I stay in a lot of hotels, some expensive and some cheap, not all of the cheap hotels feel cheap. The hotel gives instructions to phone ahead before check in which we did, we were told someone was on so we didn't need to make any plans. On arrival you enter the hotel via the service corridor to the restaurant, we was 'greeted' by a waitress. She clearly didn't have time to look after us and seemed surprised we didn't yet know our room number. If the servers haven't got time (and why would they) it'd be better for them to simply offer to get someone to help. The room is very basic which is made worse by being furnished with cheap looking furniture. Budget doesn't have to look cheap. The rooms have plenty of facilities to allow people to cook themselves, we didn't need to do this but there were all of the basics you would need to heat a meal. The only real criticism we had was that the smell of chip fat came up the stairwell from the kitchen and could be smelt in the rooms themselves, we probably only spent a total of 8 hours in the hotel but this smell was present in the evening and following morning. Overall the hotel is pretty much what you would expect at this price level. With a bit more thought and some very basic changes it would represent fantastic value for money.
