The only thing that was satisfactory here was the breakfast. Would never stay here again.

Backpackers heaven

Posted 4 Nov 2016
Pros: This is a great place for young backpackers. Right from the start you meet the owner who is very genuinely friendly and helpful and very fluent in English. You can tell he enjoys people and you know you can trust him to help with local tours and transfers. There lots of common areas to mingle, good 3 choice breakfast, small pool in the middle of it all where the rooms revolve. The beach is a 1 minute walk as are all the restaurants.
Cons: I just want older travellers to know it was very basic, too basic for us. The reviews we read when we booked didn't tell us this. We stayed our 3 days, but I am not complaining- I just wish I were 20 again.
Location: Our boat over to the Isla De La Plata," poor man's Galapagos" was awesome and affordable as well as the long walks on the beach. Ton's of restaurants.

Central location, clean rooms

Posted 21 Jul 2016
Pros: Very happy with the location to the beach, restaurants and cabana bars. Even the grocery store and laundry services are within walking distance.
Cons: The only complaint would be that the showers were not very warm, even cold some days.
Stayed for 3 nights with my 3 grown children. We arrived at 3:30 in the morning but were treated respectfully even though we had to wake them to let us in due to the hotel being locked for the night. The hotel is conveniently located near the beach and restaurants. The room we rented had a double bed and 2 bunk beds which was perfect for the 4 of us. The hotel offered 3 breakfast choices and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Santiago, the owner, is very knowledgeable about the area tours and activities. He helped us schedule the tours and even assisted us in planning the remainder of our vacation once leaving Puerto Lopez. Santiago helped us plan a great and memorable trip to the Amazon for camping and hiking. He made all of the contacts and negotiated the prices which were extremely reasonable, helped line up the transportation and even helped us with lodging in Quito in a suite that he owns in Quito. . My family feels very fortunate that we randomly picked this hotel to spend a few days. The friendly, extremely positive atmosphere was wonderful. If you want to stay somewhere where the staff and owner care about your entire vacation and not just your stay at their hotel this is the place.

Avoid on weekends.

Posted 7 Apr 2015 on Hotels
The low rating is due to: no electricity/generator power from midnight until sometime after 8 AM (we left at 8 AM) that resulted in NO running water in the bathroom/shower/toilet and no fan or A/C in a room with one small window for ventilation. We had to leave the window open so needless to say, mosquitos were out in full force and the two bars on the street were blaring music until 2 AM. A sweaty sleepless night with high humidity after strong rain. On the plus side: the neighborhood has the beach, restaurants, banks, and pharmacies within a 1-2 block radius.

Great Stay in Pto. Lopez

Posted 25 Oct 2014 on Hotels
Terrific hotel a short walk from the beach. The management was wonderful and extremely helpful. One of the nicest hotels we stayed at on the coast of Ecuador. Pto. Lopez is a beautiful bay area with a great beach. We also enjoyed the food at this hotel.

Just okay

Posted 13 Aug 2014
Pros: Location and good weather ... not too hot
Cons: The rooms are in need of that deep cleaning done at most hotels, and even though the manager promised to get water to our unit, it wasn't adequate
Location: A short walk to the beach, restaurants, and tour agencies. We walked a few blocks to the pier for our tour to Isla de la Plata one day
Puerto Lopez is in a remote area of Ecuador that claims to be the "Poor Man's Galapagos". They are trying to develop this area as a tourist destination, and truthfully, we were disappointed. We were fortunate that the whale migration coincided with our vacation because that was the most spectacular site that we saw. We expected to see more wildlife on Isla de la Plata than the birds. We did see some sea turtles, but it is a stretch to compare it to visiting the Galapagos. The hotel gave us their big room at the top of the stairs. We had a trickle of water for the toilet and shower. The tv didn't work, and the manager said he hadn't paid the cable bill. After 3 days of asking for water, we saw a truck pull up to fill their tanks. We paid more on our Expedia reservation than others who walked in without reservations. The breakfast that was included wasn't much: coffee, bread with jam, and juice. The hotel could have been cleaner. The pool is very small, and the water did not appear fresh and inviting.

nieuwe eigenaar heeft het niet begrepen

Posted 8 Oct 2017

Für eine Nacht u.I.

Posted 31 Jul 2014 on Hotels
