Good choice by the Causeway

We have stayed here a number of times. They have a number of rooms, varying in size and degree of amenities. It is a big house. The location is peaceful and quiet. It is relatively convenient, but could be difficult to find if you are not familiar with the area. The cooked breakfast is good, but only served until 8:30. The hosts are friendly and welcoming.

When we arrived there was no one around, but there were 3 vehicles in the driveway. Called out hello at both doors with no response. Finally a woman came, looking surprised to see us. I introduced myself and she asked if I knew what room I had booked. She seemed confused, then called her husband who seemed to know where we should be. We had booked 2 bedrooms with a balcony. Not what we got! 2 beds, yes, but one room, and definitely no balcony! Not as advertised at all. In the bedroom, the bedspreads and pillow shams were stained and smelly. Dust on surfaces. I dropped a shirt on the floor, and when I picked it up, it was all dusty. Bathroom fan didn't work. One box of kleenex and one wastebasket. No clocks. Only one face cloth between the 3 of us. Owners had 2 dogs, which wasn't on the website. Also kids were playing and screaming in the yard, obviously not guests. Grandchildren perhaps? Other B&Bs we've stayed in are professionally run. This one felt like we were staying with elderly relatives. Breakfast was good - eggs made individually to order. The owners tried to be friendly. The man chatted with us after breakfast, and seemed nice. Would not stay there again and would not recommend.

I read your review with considerable interest and as a result felt that a comprehensive review of it was appropriate. It was unfortunate that you were not met at the door upon arrival as I was with another guest at the time. It is not possible for me to be available at the door whenever a guest arrives due to other commitments. I do the best I am able to but clearly not all guests are satisfied. The lady who met this guest was the cook and not my wife. She appeared confused by the guests questions as she is not familiar with the reservation process as that is not her job. She was however kind enough to show the guests to the rooms assigned and provide these guests with a very good personally prepared breakfast as graciously pointed out by the guests in their review. This lady has been filling in recently for my regular cook who has take leave due to illness. According to her it was apparent from your positive comments at the time the guests arrived in the room that it met their requirements with two beds in separate rooms sharing a common bath. The guests did not express any concerns or displeasure with anything to the owner who had a considerable cordial discussion with them at breakfast. Comments about the children playing in the back yard seem a bit unfair. These children are grandchildren of the cook who have been visiting with her. I put up a trampoline for them to play on but such activity only lasts for a short time. They play hide and seek and other games. The children have a small dog (Havanese) which is considered cute by the guests who have been exposed to her. The other dog, a Boston terrier, is my sons dog who was left with me for the night. I have taken the guests comments seriously and have given them appropriate consideration in an effort to improve our services.

Location, very clean, comfortably bed. Breakfast was adequate eggs were cooked really well but cereal selection was very poor, some had run out altogether. Owner was very friendly.
