On a high cliff face with the Mediterranean stretching out in front, the promontory of this lighthouse offers wonderful views.

Admire the elegant Port de Sóller Sa Creu Lighthouse. Just below, see the dilapidated shell of the earlier structure that still remains. Gaze along the rugged west coast of the island to understand the importance of a lighthouse at this spot. Watch as people swim and boats sail on the sparkling sea.

Stroll to the headland on the eastern side of Port de Sóller and notice the graying structure of the lighthouse that has stood here for more than 150 years. Although still functioning, its living space was abandoned in 1923 for fear of danger during strong winds. Ocean waves forced through a bufador or hole in the cliff could create geysers of water up to 45 feet (15 meters) above the building’s cupola.

Turn around and see the newer lighthouse standing on higher ground, a striking contrast with a shining black-and-white exterior and flashing white light. Built in 1945, it shines its reassuring glow every night. It is not possible to go inside the tower yet this elevated point offers an excellent spot to marvel at the surrounding scenery.

Take a 30-minute walk from the port to the Cap Gros lighthouse rising on a western headland. This white tower was built in 1859. Its promontory offers picturesque views of the port and the Sa Creu lighthouses.

The gorgeous bay of Sóller arches around behind you. Walk through the narrow cobbled streets of the town and pause at small shops to purchase souvenirs. Rent a boat or paddleboard to explore the striking Mallorca coastline or snorkel or dive in the clear waters.

Farther inland, the Tramuntana Mountains stand silent and imposing. Even so it is difficult to divert your attention from the sparse, undulating coastline and blue-green sea that stretches out to the horizon. Stay long enough to catch a glimpse of dolphins just offshore.

Port de Sóller Sa Creu Lighthouse is located on a headland just past the marina, a 10-minute stroll from the center of town. Visit the lighthouse promontory at any time. It has no admission charge.
