I’ve stayed in rooms at the main McKay’s several times. Beware the fine print; this property now utilises the annex across the street, which is more akin to a marginal youth hostel. I arrived exhausted after 18 hours of travel only to find my room was the size of a walk in closet with a child-sized bed. My university dorm was twice the size. I reported my dissatisfaction with management who assigned me a larger room (that didn’t overlook rubbish bins) for the same price. The manager was very nice, other staff members (including restaurant) not as much. I hope things improve here as I visit Pitlochry every year and hope to stay at McKay’s again.

Sadly we did not have a great stay.
Check-in is at 4pm which is too late for Scotland in winter (it is almost dark).
The welcome could not be described as friendly.
Our room was immediately above the Pub Quiz and there was loud noise until almost 11. And we had paid more for a better room.
Also the food was not impressive.
We’ve stayed here before and had enjoyed our previous stays.
But this time was below par.
We both agreed we would not return.

A bit disappointing.
Posted 16 Oct 2024 on HotelsShower only had slightly warm water (but they said they’d get that looked at). Room didn’t have anything to sit on apart from the bed. I couldn’t check in until after 16:00. The cooked breakfast was very well prepared but a bit minimal and the buffet had very limited choice. At least the juice glasses were proper glasses and not thimbles like most places. The fruit was badly bashed and looked old.

Check in was easy, carpark small so we had to park elsewhere. The room was tiny, we booked a small double, not expecting it to be as small as it was especially for the price for 1 night. Only 2 channels worked on the tv,it was also tiny, about the size of a laptop screen. Room quite noisy, heard music about 10pm and alot if banging. Food in restaurant really good, breakfast also nice. Would not book a small double again if we came back. Staff all really nice.

Terrible Stay
Posted 9 Oct 2024 on HotelsIncredibly disappointed and upset with the quality of our room. We were sent to the townhouse across the street which was easy to find. The room itself needs MAJOR upgrading. The carpets look like they haven’t been cleaned, the bathrooms are tiny and need cleaning as well, there was only a tiny bed sheet separating us and the stained mattress. Not to mention we booked this room (1 bed and 1 bunk bed) so we could have more than 1 bed but since the bunk bed was shaking on the way up (and we are 2 young girls - not very big) we had to share the 1 bed. The mattress was also firm so we both got a few hours of sleep at best. Limited plugs as well.
