Discovering the scenic beauty and wildlife of Parque Nacional do Iguaçu is often the highlight of a visit to Foz do Iguaçu. Spread across a vast area of rainforest and woodland, this national park straddles the Iguazu River on the border of Brazil and Argentina.

The park’s main attraction is the set of 275 waterfalls that are collectively known as Iguaçu Falls. Follow walking trails to viewing platforms, from where you can enjoy unrivaled panoramic views and take postcard-perfect photos. Check out the thundering water of Devil’s Throat, which, at 262 feet (80 meters) tall, is the park’s tallest waterfall.

Adventure activities abound inside the park. Enjoy walks through the jungle and speedboat rides beneath waterfalls on the Macuco Safari. Join a kayak or whitewater rafting tour on the Iguazu River. Splurge on a helicopter ride for a bird’s-eye view of the waterfalls. Keep an eye out for raccoons and monkeys, butterflies, parrots and toucans.

Throughout the park find several cafés and restaurants in addition to picnic areas, ideal if you want to bring your own lunch. Watch for coatis, Brazilian aardvarks that are happy to steal food from tourists.

The national park stretches across the river into Argentina. It’s worth visiting both sides to appreciate the full magnitude of the waterfalls. Experience close-up views of the falls, including an incredible top-down perspective of Devil’s Throat. Relax on an island beach, swim in the river or discover the park’s myriad flora.
