Take a gentle stroll around Parc de la Mer and stop to appreciate the stunning views of the cathedral and artwork by legendary Catalan artist, Joan Miró. Walk along the old wall and relax with a cold drink at one of the park’s alfresco cafés.
For centuries, the gentle waves of the Mediterranean Sea lapped against the city walls but these were halted by the construction of a road on the waterfront. Parc de la Mer opened in 1984 to restore natural beauty to the area and has remained a favorite with locals ever since.
One of the park’s most popular walkways runs along the top of the old city wall. Make your way along this wide path to enjoy fine views over the stunning Mallorca Cathedral and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. Come early in the morning to see the sun rise over the cathedral, turning it a beautiful golden color. Have a morning coffee in one of the many cafés around the park and watch the locals doing morning exercises or making their way to work.
Head to the middle of the park and you will find the large lake with a tall fountain in its center. Relax by the water for a while, or continue through the park to find a colorful ceramic mural, which was donated to the city by Joan Miró.
If possible, be sure to experience the open-air cinema which holds showings in the park during the summer. Films are projected onto a large screen that floats in the lake. You may also catch a musical performance in the auditorium. During the day, stop and watch street performers entertaining the crowds.
Parc de la Mer is located on the sea front in the old part of the city. It is open all hours, so it makes a great place for a romantic evening stroll when the cathedral is lit up
