The Paraty House of Culture is a museum and activity hub that puts on a range of temporary exhibits and events throughout the year. It stands within a whitewashed building with elegant blue balconies and window frames of colonial design. Discover the local customs and traditions that are explored in the intriguing displays and activities hosted here.

Find out about how the Paraty House of Culture has been in operation since 2004, enabling teachers, students, artists and visitors to exchange ideas. The museum has a focus on local culture and history. Come here to learn about the inception of the town and inspect the range of photographs documenting some of its past. Art and music classes for young people and adults are also hosted regularly on the premises.

Capture striking photos of this colonial mansion, with a foreground of the cobbled lanes bordering it. Appreciate the fresh, white façade, with its blue windows and doors and its stone patterns that highlight the building’s corners.

Climb upstairs to enter the main gallery and check out some of the impressive rotating exhibits on culture and art. Enjoy the excellent vista of the historic buildings and the bay from this top floor.

Make your way through the stylish interior to see the different exhibition spaces as well as the auditorium, where lectures and movie presentations take place. The latter has air conditioning and space for 150 attendees. Take a break to enjoy snacks and refreshments in the charming café.

Note that the Paraty House of Culture opens Tuesday through Saturday from morning until late evening. On Sundays, it closes in the afternoon. Events are usually free to attend, although you may make a voluntary contribution to the site. The museum can be found right in the town’s historic center. It is just two blocks inland from the scenic coastline of Carioca Bay. Make sure to see the other nearby sights too, which include Bandeira Square, Matriz Square and the Nossa Senhora das Dores Church.
