This was my first trip to the Caribbean, and I booked the cheapest place I could find. Went to check in at the front desk/restaurant, and the two people behind the counter looked confused, and started phoning someone (I'm assuming to confirm). No one asked for my name or anything, they just handed me a key and I saw the charge on my card the next day. The room had a horrible mildew/mold smell, and the air conditioner did not work. I had to move the bed to right under the unit to find some relief. What's worse was the broken a/c made a loud buzzing sound every 30 seconds, making it difficult to get quality sleep. This was an absolute bare-minimum accommodation, there was no soap anywhere, not even hand soap in the bathroom. The room and bed were fairly clean, however, there were old bandages stuck to the shower head, so I'm not sure how well they're cleaning in there. As for the shower, there is one knob, and one temperature--tepid, so no escape from the heat there either. The two staff members I saw for the entirety of my stay weren't rude by any means, but they were certainly awkward. I had almost no interactions with them. The outside of the property had an awful rotting garbage stench, I'm assuming from the dumpster and old grease barrels situated right in front of the entrance. I learned my lesson, do the research before you go.
