An impressive castle, a long beach, unspoilt nature and the proximity to a city make Oostkapelle the perfect place for an excellent holiday. The town's beach has been declared the prettiest beach in the Netherlands more than once. It’s one of those must-see places!
Oostkapelle is part of the municipality of Veere and has a rich history. One of its oldest landmarks is Kasteel Westhove where numerous monarchs have lived over the centuries. Unfortunately part of the castle was destroyed during the 80-year war. Visit the castle with its moat for an unusual experience.
In addition to Kasteel Westhove, Terra Maris, a museum for nature and landscape, is home to some cultural heritage. The museum is close to the castle and tells the story of the origins of the province of Zeeland. For a beautiful view of the town and its surrounding nature, climb the tower in the village church. The height not only affords you a great view of the town, the sea and the beautiful nature, you will also be able to see nature reserve Manteling in the distance. This 700 hectare nature reserve lends itself perfectly to a day in the woods. Alternate a day of outdoor activities with a day of shopping in Middelburg! The city is just 15 minutes away by car. Relax at one of the sidewalk cafés, stroll down the shopping streets and climb Lange Jan for a spectacular view.
Oostkapelle is small making it easy to explore the town and its surrounding area on foot or by bicycle. If you're travelling by car, you can park at the beach or in town.
The A58 will take you to Oostkapelle. If you’re travelling by public transport, take the train to Middelburg and then one of the buses to Oostkapelle. You can also hire a bicycle in Middelburg and cycle the 10 kilometres to Oostkapelle.
Oostkapelle is the perfect destination if you're looking for the tranquillity of nature but also want to be close to a city. Enjoy this beautiful part of Zeeland.
