Olympic Stadium

Take the roof tour for excellent views and try zip lining in this avant-garde stadium in a fun and historic complex.

The Olympic Stadium is an innovative and all-encompassing arena for music and sports. It is part of the vast Olympic Park Munich complex that comprises a lake, a hall and a swimming pool. Admire the design of this large stadium, with its sweeping, round terrace and the scalloped netting that serves as a partial roof.

For a sense of the magnitude and history of this vast arena, embark on one of the guided tours. Learn from the docent about the architecture and construction. Walk along the bridge that runs alongside the netting on the Roof Tour to enjoy views of the stadium, the Munich skyline and the Bavarian Alps. Zip line or abseil down from the lofty height.

Attend a concert at this legendary arena, which has hosted such megastars as Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Bon Jovi, U2 and the Rolling Stones. Elton John, Sting, Madonna and Rihanna have also played here, among many other notable artists.

One of the highlights of the Olympic Park is the Olympic Tower, which has a viewing platform 620 feet (190 meters) high. Go at night for a view of the starry sky.

Bring the kids to the Sea Life aquarium and wander along the Munich Olympic Walk of Stars, which includes the names of athletes as well as concert performers.

As its name suggests, the stadium was built for the Olympic Games in 1972. Note that since then, some of the world’s most significant soccer events have taken place here, including the 1974 World Cup Final, the Euro ’88 Final and a few finals of the Champions League in its various incarnations. Today, it has a capacity of 69,250.

The stadium tour has a fee, with discounts for kids. An additional charge is incurred for access to the Olympic Tower. Various activities open at different times. Reserve your desired tour online to ensure access.

Find the Olympic Stadium in the northern part of the city. Take the tram from central Munich to the Olympic Park West station to arrive in about 30 minutes. You can also take a bus to the Olympiasee stop. Visit nearby attractions, including the BMW Museum, the Westfriedhof cemetery and the Schloss Nymphenburg palace.
