The small town of Nybro was formed about 300 years ago, at the base of a bridge where a main road crossed a stream. During the 1700s, the town became a popular place for travellers to make a well needed stop. Nybro's location is still advantageous, as many pass by here on their way to and from the nearby city of Kalmar. From Nybro, you can catch a train and in 15 minutes be in Kalmar, where you can explore the Kalmar Castle.
When visiting Nybro, you are right in the middle of the Kingdom of Crystal, the heart of Swedish glass production. In the town you can visit Pukeberg Glassworks, which is one of the oldest in Sweden, and Nybro Glassworks, which is particularly known for its painted glass. Also Maleras Glassworks is well worth a visit. On the way, you'll pass Orrefors, the birth place of the purveyor to the King Orrefors Kosta Boda, whose outlet is now located in neighbouring Kosta.
Make sure you explore the tranquil forests around the town. Rismala Nature Reserve offers plenty of facilities, such as lean-tos and fireplaces, and is accessible with both wheelchairs and prams.
