Unpleasant stay

Posted 17 Aug 2018 on Hotels
The staff put us in 2 different rooms for 2 nights, the first one needs lots of repair, eg. Telephone not working, smelly bathroom. Electricity and water stopped many times. The breakfast buffet is so so, the local coffee tastes blank.

We arrived to Nuwara Eliya to find our hotel booking via Hotels.com had not been registered by the hotel itself and they were fully booked. Hotels.com took no responsibility as they used an agent called YOHO. This let down by hotels.com aside - we managed to find the golf club had rooms and could book in there. We were desperate to find somewhere quickly as Nuwara Eliya itself was a huge dissapointment! Weather was worse than Blackpool in November (there were even some hotels called Blackpool!) Torrential rain and around 10 degrees, no bars or restaurants around so we needed a hotel with its own bar and restaurant, so we quickly went for this place. Upon arrival, the rooms were very basic, not good. It has very clearly, 'had it's day'. The saving grace of this place was the cozy bar/pub to warm up in whilst watching the cricket, drinking beers and wines and chatting to very friendly staff members.

Historic golf club

Posted 1 Mar 2018 on Ebookers
Pros: Friendliness of staff and good quality of food. Logs fires at night.
Cons: Improvements are about to be made which will make it even better.
Location: The golf club is up in the tea country Newara Eliya. You can play golf, visit the tea plantations . It is cooler up here
we were visiting the golf club that grandad had been Captain of 100 years ago. His challenge cup is still there. Very interesting course in the middle of the tea estates.

Pros: Golf
Cons: Food and comfort of beds

Not a first rate experience. Food is bad but I get the impression Staff are not well treated. Enjoyed the golf course immensely. Caddies were great

Convenient

Posted 6 Aug 2017
Constant problem with service staff, service took far too long, food always arrived cold, orders were incorrect because they did not write them down, obvious breakdown between waiter and kitchen. Badly in need of a female in the management chain. Accommodation very basic, the complex could be fantastic if it was upgraded, great potential!

Beautiful golf course

Other than the golf course, we are very disappointed with the rooms. It was old and rundown.

Terrible experience...

Posted 17 Aug 2016
Pros: Good location (city center) in a quiet area. Restaurant serves good food, but it's a bit pricey.
Cons: Everything must be improved: cleanliness, amenities, service, etc.
I don't know where to start...People who worked seem like they don't want to run an hotel. We had a very bad service from the beginning to the end. The room itself was terrible. Beware that the rooms are next to each other, they are all the same and they have CARPET on the floor. Everything in our room was very dirty, more especially the carpet. Bad smell and humidity in the room. There was stain and moisture everywhere in the bathroom (see pictures). Also, there was a big lack of amenities in the room (no hair dryer, no fridge, old television, etc.). I travelled 1 month in Sri Lanka and this is by far the worst hotel we had! More especially if you consider it was one of the most expensive. We really didn't feel great in this room and we considered to move to another hotel for our second night because it was too dirty, old and unpleasant.

The club was difficult to find. We drove around in circles as the entrance is quite secluded and did not match the location on Google Maps. On checking in, we found the accomondation basic but clean. We had a good night's sleep. Staff service is warm and eager to please. This is not really a hotel but a golf club, so expectations need to be moderated.
