Unfortunately I can’t give this property a positive rating. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and the room was large and clean but it was absolutely freezing, with no proper service for dinner, and the locations is down a beaten track that not even the most adventurous backpackers would want to venture on in the dark

Posted 4 Aug 2018 on HotelsI stayed at the Grand Camellia in Nov last year and so this is my 2nd time staying there. I feel very comfortable returning to this hotel because of the warmth of the staff and the good condition of the hotel. I am not much into cold weather and the heater fan in the hotel rooms is one of the reasons I find the hotel very suitable for me to bring my friends there. I was right as I had received favorable feedback from my friends too saying it was a good choice for me to select this hotel.

Looking forward to my next stay
Posted 2 Dec 2017 on HotelsOverall, I am very happy with the hotel. Nice clean comfortable. The heater provided with each room is a great help to keep the room cozy when the temperature drop at night. Perhaps because the hotel is very new, the food and beverage options can be improved. I think this is important as the nearest restaurant is at least 1 or 2 km away and hotel guests who prefer to dine in will greatly appreciate the convenience of having more options to choose from. Had spoken with the manager about this and he promised to take note and work on it. I am certain my next stay at this lovely hotel will be an even better experience. Thanks for a wonderful stay guys!

Posted 1 Dec 2017Nice clean hotel. Good value for money. Located at the top of a hill so requires a car for access or if you are energetic you can walk.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Refer to what I have stated above.
The road leading up to the hotel is terrible. Two vehicles cannot pass and have to drive quite a distance from the main road. Even though there are sign posts showing the direction to the hotel, they are not properly indicated with arrows.
Staff were noisy and the reception phone kept ringing late in the evening and early morning.
Food was basic. They provide basic accommodation and will not recommend to anyone.

We understand that the road is bit narrow and we cannot do much about that. but its just 200m from the main road. and you get a good view of the lake once you reach the hotel. we have taken note of the points you have mention and will work hard to fix the errors. The hotel gave me very mixed vibes. I disliked it when I first arrived. Our room had had its door recently mended and the smell of the wood treatment permiated the room. We went to the dining room to have dinner only to be told our choice would take 45 mins to prepare. Unfortunately the staff had tried to tell us this earlier, but their English is not good and we had not understood. As we got to know the staff they were very friendly and helpful and our initial misunderstandings were forgotten. The hotel is in the process of being improved and the staff are doing their best. Unfortunately I did not like Nuwara Eliya as it was Sri Lankan new year which made it very busy.
