The Nordiska Kompaniet is an iconic and traditional department store epitomizing the upscale side of Stockholm. Its eclectic sections are spread across multiple floors, overlooking the café tables set up in the grand atrium. Browse the various international shops for cosmetics, jewelry and fashion, among other themes.
Recognize the site by the large yellow NK initials printed on its façade. Enter via the classic colonnade at the building’s base. The complex has a variety of shops that specialize in everything from fine foods and design, to crystals and ceramics.
Get the best in Nordic fashion from clothing stores such as Acne Studios and Paul & Friends. The department store also has its own NK Nordiska Designers section focusing on the top Scandinavian trends. Stop for a hot beverage or snack in one of the complex’s cafés and canteens.
Look for information about new launches, gift vouchers and events in the department store from the NK Service Center. Here, you can reserve a personal shopper or styling services with English-speaking guides. Notice that the department store also contains more practical services, including a shoe repair salon, a tailor and a pharmacy.
Visit the site during the festive year-end season for the merry decorations and the enormous Christmas tree rising from the atrium’s floor to the ceiling, surrounded by an arch of glass panels.
The department store was inaugurated in 1915. Today the site is open from morning until evening, closing a little earlier on weekends. If you’re not from Sweden, have the tax you’ve paid on purchases reimbursed at the Global Blue’s Downtown Refund station.
