Place has history and charm, and a great downtown location. Downside was that it is in the middle of a renovation.

I stayed at the Janet Hotel 2 nights in mid-October 2024. The location of the hotel is incredible in the far West Village. Very quiet even though West St. is 50' away!
Moments AFTER I made my reservation I received an email from the hotel staff notifying me that the entire hotel, ALL the public spaces, are closed and under construction. Considering the hotel rooms are 50 sq. ft., having some public spaces and amenities like a lobby, bar, restaurant, lounge, café - hell anything - would be nice. None of these things are currently available! The property is in year 1 of a 3 year construction upgrade. 🙆♂️
My reservation was made 48 hours before arriving. The Jane was comparatively affordable considering most other hotels were far more than double the price. The big difference being other hotel rooms had private, in room toilets and bathing and 3X the space.
I spent almost all my waking hours outside The Jane Hotel. My trip was great, and I have an interesting travel tale to tell about my bunk bed tiny room in NYC!

The room was clean. They seem to be housing people who belong in a nursing home. One hallway smelled like sewage. And they share the same bathroom in the hallway. One older woman I saw in the hall look like a monster from a horror movie, it's pretty sad.
