The New Jersey Performing Arts Centerwas the vision of the former New Jersey Governor, Thomas Kean, who commissionedthe idea in 1986. The venue opened in 1997 and along with several othercultural attractions on the Passaic River waterfront, the venue has helpedinvigorate the city of Newark into a world-class cultural destination.

Scan the program of events and see whatcoincides with your visit. Previous performers to grace the stage includemusician Bob Dylan, the Royal Danish Ballet Company and numerous otherwell-recognized stars. The world-renowned New Jersey Symphony Orchestra arebased here and play a summer season each year. Take your place in the2,800-seat Prudential Hall and see why they are considered to be among the bestorchestras in the country.

If nothing in the larger theaterappeals, see what is on in the more intimate Victoria Theater. Here you cancatch local acts and touring performers. Book a guided tour to learn about thetheater’s history and catch a glimpse of the backstage area.

Start your night at the theater with ameal at one of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s restaurants. Nico offersmodern cuisine, while the Tier 3 Café serves light meals and great coffee.

If you are here in the summer don’tmiss the Horizon Foundation Sounds of the City festival. This is a free outdoormusic festival held in July and August.
