The Allerton Botanical Garden is a scenic landscape garden with natural treasures and works of art. It has a rich history, having passed through the hands of intriguing historical figures over the years. Embark on a guided tour of the vast gardens for a better understanding of the local vegetation.

Appreciate how the garden blends the local topography with artistic structures, yielding spectacular results. Admire the bronze mermaids that stand beside the tall rainforest trees and their meandering roots. The forest contains tropical fruit trees and golden bamboo trees that sway in the breeze.

Snap photos of the pretty displays in the cut-flower garden and gaze up at the palm trees and ki, ginger and heliconia plants, which are also known as lobster claws. Make your way through the various garden realms, each offering its own exotic blend of vegetation.

Meditate to the sound of flowing water in the varied pools, waterfalls and fountains that decorate the park. The site has many intriguing statues that add a sense of culture and history to the picturesque scenery.

Speak with docents about the garden’s background on one of the tours that leave hourly from the South Shore Visitors Center. The complex has belonged to a Hawaiian queen, a plantation owner and an architect. Learn from guides how it has been used for film productions, including Jurassic Park and various TV shows.

Visit the garden daily from morning until afternoon. There is an admission fee, with discounts for kids and free entrance for toddlers. A typical visit to the park lasts 2 to 3 hours.
