Browse high street retailers and boutique fashion outlets and pick up local produce at a farmer’s market as you explore Frankfurt’s premier shopping district.

The area around Zeil in Frankfurt’s city center is a shopper’s paradise. Although its origins date back to the 14th century, it wasn’t until the 1800s that this street found its current calling. Since then, the Zeil Shopping District has been one of Germany’s most popular retail destinations. Whether you are searching for a unique German gift idea or the latest in high street fashion, you will find plenty to fill your bags with around Zeil.

Take a stroll along the main pedestrianized street to start your shopping adventures. Lined with major fashion outlets, Zeil is home to many flagship stores. Try on shoes or window shop at upmarket boutiques. Meander along adjacent streets to find smaller independent designers and local artisan products.

Step inside one of the two major malls in the district for more shopping. Zeilgalerie is immediately recognizable for its unique architecture. Admire its spiral-shaped exterior, made of steel, glass and concrete. Climb to the roof for stunning views across Frankfurt. Discover the MyZeil center within the Palais Quartier complex.

Make your way to the other end of the street to discover the farmers market that sets up at Konstablerwache on Thursdays and Saturdays. Pick up fresh produce and local meats and cheeses. More gourmet produce can be found in the food court of Galeria Kaufhof nearby. The major department store is one of Germany’s nationwide chains and offers excellent shopping for men and women on multiple floors. Afterwards, take food to the nearby Eschenheimer Anlage for a lunchtime picnic.

The Zeil Shopping Precinct is located in central Frankfurt and can be reached by underground rail network at both ends. Stores and shopping centers are subject to their own opening hours, however, as is common throughout Germany, shops close on most Sundays of the year.
