The Museum of Che Guevara pays tribute to the revolutionary and shows a personal side to his legend. Based in one of the houses in which he resided, the museum sheds light on his teenage angst and family life with details that became known long after his death. Examine intriguing photographs and items to piece together the puzzle that is Che Guevara.

The museum is in Villa Nydia, a house with a charming front garden, located in a quiet neighborhood. Guevara’s family moved to this suburban district when he was young in the hope the fresh, dry air would cure his chronic asthma. Follow the set path through the rooms that portrays the timeline of his life.

Inspect the small statue that depicts the political thinker as a child and browse photos, manuscripts and other documents that belonged to him. Included in the collection are photographs of family life that show Guevara with school friends and riding his motorbike. Hear humorous and fascinating anecdotes about Guevara’s generosity and his politics when you speak with a docent.

The Marxist revolutionary was known affectionately by peers and followers as El Che or simply Che. His real first name was in fact Ernesto and he was staunchly anti-capitalist from witnessing the poverty in his home nation of Argentina. Learn how he became a symbol of rebellion and played a major role in the Cuban revolution. The museum was set up in 2001.

Note that it opens Tuesday through Sunday from morning until evening. On Mondays it opens in the afternoon. There is a fee for admission with discounts for students. Kids enter for free.

The Museum of Che Guevara is in the commune of Alta Gracia, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southwest of central Córdoba. It is in the northwestern corner of the small town. Visit nearby attractions, such as the Golf Club Alta Gracia, the El Ceibo Park and the Tajamar Tower.
