With its clear blue waters and reliably gentle currents, Mullins Beach is one of the most northerly beaches on Barbados. Given its distance from the capital, the beach is also one of the island's quietest, offering plentiful opportunities for leisurely strolls and soaking up the sunshine.
There is a distinct lack of natural shade along Mullins Beach, so it's best to come equipped, or rent a beach umbrella from one of the beach's vendors. Get here early to get the best gear and to make sure you have your pick of prime spots along the sand.
Once you've set up camp for the day, it's time to take a dip in Mullins' warm waters. Swimmers with sensitive feet may need to invest in a pair of swimming shoes as the sea bed here is littered with coral.
For something a little more fast paced, rent a jet ski to cut through the coastal waters, try your hand at water-skiing or climb aboard a banana boat. To catch a glimpse of the local sea turtles, hop onto one of the glass-bottomed boats that tour along the coast.
There are toilet and shower facilities at the beach, as well as a foodie hotspot and plentiful places to buy snacks and souvenirs.
As Mullins sometimes experiences issues relating to beach erosion, it might be a good idea to check the local beach reports before making the journey. The easiest way to get here is by car, particularly following the construction of the large car park across from the beach. There is also a bus which runs here from Bridgetown. If you decide to get a taxi to Mullins Beach, make sure to negotiate a fare and a return time before you leave. The drive should take approximately 30 minutes.
