The bohemian borough incorporates a number of gentrified neighbourhoods. As you make your way through the vibrant McGill Ghetto, dodge the students who have flocked here due to cheap rent and proximity to McGill University. With a healthy independent music scene that has nurtured the likes of Arcade Fire, this is also the spot to catch some great live music.

The Plateau is a dream to explore on foot. Wander around Saint Louis Square and admire the historic townhouses and Victorian homes that spill onto the shady tree-lined streets. As the name suggests, this trendy hub sits on relatively flat terrain just north-east of Mont Royal and is easily accessible from the city centre, so you really have no excuse for not paying a visit.
