Standing between the Place de la Comédie and the coast is Croix d’Argent, a diamond-shaped residential neighborhood with many shops and restaurants. Its scenic park straddling the tram lines is filled with trees. Discover many activities for the whole family, from woodland hiking to wall climbing.
Beside the tramway rails, the trees of the Croix d’Argent Park rise over a charming stone wall. Let your kids frolic on the slides of its playground and enjoy a picnic on the grass in this family-friendly setting. Enjoy the serenity away from the city center and wander along the trails of the pleasant woodland, which is made up of cypress and Osage orange trees.
A little northeast of the park’s entrance is the Tao School, where you can practice martial arts and meditation. Join a gymnastics class and learn the Tai Chi Chuan fighting style in this school, where instructors speak English.
From here, walk south for about 25 minutes to reach the Mad Monkey climbing theme park. Kids age 4 and older take on the challenge of the site’s 24 multicolored walls. Use the futuristic Augmented Reality section, which combines sports with video games.
Remaining in the southern part of the district, admire the Espace Entreprise Garosud complex, whose colorful façade is a fine example of the innovative architecture around Montpellier. Try the Italian food in the restaurant on the building’s first floor.
A couple of sports options occupy the zone’s eastern border. Go for a swim in the Piscine Jean Vives and try to bowl a strike at the Bowlingstar Montpellier. The latter also has mini-lanes for kids and billiard tables.
Croix d’Argent is a district in the southwestern suburbs of Montpellier. Ride the tramline toward its southern terminus and get out at Croix d’Argent, Villeneuve d’Angoulême or Sabines. You can also rent a bike and cycle here from the city center in about 15 minutes. Continue south to reach the beach area of Palavas-les-Flots.
