A trip to Molndal is perfect for tourists who want to see more of the Swedish west coast than just Gothenburg. The town is full of activities and historical landmarks like Abytravet Racecourse. During summer there are a number of beautiful wild swimming spots around town, and during winter you can attend a traditional Swedish "julbord" (Christmas buffet) at one of the excellent restaurants.
If you're planning a weekend trip to Molndal, a good place to start your visit is at Molndal Town Museum. This is a museum of cultural history in the old industrial area of Molndal with exhibitions and temporary displays. There are interactive sections in the museum suitable for young visitors as well. Gunnebo House and Gardens is a gorgeous mansion from the 18th century, where you can go on a guided tour. You can dine in the restaurant on fresh produce straight from the own gardens.
Fassbergs Church is also well worth a visit, whatever the time of year. The church is located on top of the hill Baaz Berg with a wonderful view over the surrounding area. The current building was erected during the late 19th century, but there are parts that remain of the previous church.
You can spend much of a weekend in Molndal at Abytravet a modern racecourse with a nice terrace where you can mingle and have a view over the stables. Make sure to visit Molndals Kvarnby. The old industrial area around the waterfalls has been active since the middle ages, when water was used to power the mill. Get an insight into how people lived in the area from the middle ages until late 19th century. Enter by the side of the cascade if you want to brave a visit to the subterranean passage underneath Molndals Kvarnby.
Molndal is located a short distance to the south of Gothenburg in the county of Vastergotland. It's only a 20 minute drive from the coast and 15 minutes by car to the lakes Radasjon and Delsjon. At Lake Radasjon you find barbeque spots and toilets, and this is a very popular spot amongst locals in summer. It's easy to travel to Molndal with an array of public transport options. Catch a train or a bus from Gothenburg, or drive yourself and park on one of the many public spots in central Molndal.
In close vicinity to Gothenburg, Molndal maintains a distinctly own personality. Visit gorgeous fresh water lakes in beautiful forested surroundings and historical landmarks not to be missed.
