Mid-Wales is the perfect location for a family holiday, a romantic break away or short weekend break. Picturesque sandy beaches with dolphins swimming off shore, plenty of small market towns to enjoy and two National Parks there is something for everyone in Mid-Wales.

When looking for somewhere to stay in Mid Wales there is a wide variety of options available. Whether it’s a spa boutique hotel, bed and breakfast, country inn or holiday park you’re after, Mid Wales has something to suit all needs and wants.

Marvel at Snowdonia National Park

Visit the Snowdonia National Park, often described as an Eden for walkers with its clean air and miles of unspoilt land to explore. This area of outstanding natural beauty, the scale of the mountains and the surrounding valleys will leave you speechless. With many outdoor activities for you to enjoy, you will not be short of things to do. No trip to Snowdonia would be complete without a visit to Portmeirion Village or Harlech Castle.

Explore Snowdonia

Portmeirion Village, built in the same style of an Italian village, sits at the foot of Snowdonia. A setting for many films and television documentaries, it’s a perfect location to relax in after the long climb up Snowdonia.

Harlech Castle in Snowdonia is a lot smaller than most, however it is certainly worth a visit. An imposing structure standing tall over the nearby town, with a little bit of imagination you can see how this castle once looked. All this complete with fantastic views over the whole Snowdonia National Park.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors at Brecon Beacons

Brecon Beacons National Park is situated beside the Black Mountains and is a must see for those of you who enjoy the great outdoors while travelling. With a largely rugged terrain, there are lots of activities on offer in the park with hiking, running and cycling all popular. Indeed, accommodation options at Brecon Beacons are plentiful, making this a great base for any trip to Mid Wales.

Enjoy the Magical Welsh Market Towns

There is something magical and inviting about Mid-Wales market towns, lined with independent stories and boutique shops selling their own artisan crafted products. Welshpool is one such town its livestock markets and what is believed to be the largest one-day sheep market in Europe. The church in the centre of town was reputedly founded by St. Cynfelin during the age of the saints in Wales. Later it was used for cockfighting until it was outlawed.

Head Along to the Coast

The Mid-Wales coastline has a cluster of beaches for the whole family to enjoy. The highlight is Cardigan Bay, providing miles of sandy golden beaches overlooked by the Cambrian Mountains and Snowdonia in the north. With boat trips available across the bay, take the opportunity to learn about the local wildlife and you might get lucky and spot dolphins who regularly swim offshore.

Powis Castle is well worth a visit: a beautifully maintained castle and superb gardens. A lot of people visit for the gardens alone. There is also the option of taking part in a game of croquet - something that might keep the children entertained.
