"A very old and tired hotel. Room had not been aired for a long time so smelled damp and musty - I had to open the window as soon as I entered the room. Old furniture, old and dilapidated bathroom / shower. Span and gym not available. Swimming pool available but costs €18 for a swim! I dont expect to pay as a guest of the hotel. Breakfast OK - coffee cold."

She told us about the history of the property, showed us to our room and made our dinner reservations at a wonderful local restaurant. And then there was breakfast, which was just fabulous. "This Quinta exceeded our expectations. It is situated in a rural and beautiful area. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance. There’s also a much larger town not too far from the Quinta, called Penafiel. The villa where we stayed had a breathtaking view of both the vineyard and river.
