The property itself is very pretty , great pool and very good food - however the owners lack of English and organisation skills are very limited - There is a very good manager but he seems to do everything for her because she is so chaotic ! For those that remember Faulty towers , this is the French version - you need a car to get to the nearest towns and villages , they are a long walk ! My room was fine but it needs updating and the rooms vary alot - the better rooms are in the first building near reception - it was okay but I’m not sure I would stay there again.

Gorgeous place with lack of proper management

Posted 28 Aug 2020 on Hotels
We experienced the same things that were described in other comments: Receptionist couldn't find reservation so Hotelscom had to call in ; room wasn't cleaned when we arrived ; we paid online for superior room and got a basic one ; restroom were leaking with unfixed lid ; when we checked-out they billed us by mistake drinks we didn't take as well as the room that was pre-paid (lol). Happily the place itself, the pool, the garden are gorgeous so our stay was still very enjoyable. I'd say the staff is doing its best but there is a clear lack of organisation/management.

Very beautiful old stone building that has been updated. Excellent breakfast. Maybe upgrade the flat pillows?

The Beginning of Luberon

Posted 15 Jul 2018
One cannot help but love the quaint, tranquil, unique villages of the Luberon. When one is so lucky to stay at “Hostellerie le Roy Soleil” in Menerbes than one falls in love with the Luberon region. Everything from the beautiful, natural surroundings of the property, to the lavish pool, the availability of both old, rustic rooms to new, modern ones. This is a location worth staying in for both comfort, quality and tranquility. The owner, Josee and her staff are lovely, accommodating individuals, and may I add very helpful. The village of Menerbes is not far, just a 20 minute walk from the hotel, but ensure you ask one of the hotel staff for the proper directions. It was very difficult for me to depart from Roy Soleil since I felt at home; superb staff and owner of establishment contribute to one’s overall pleasure.

terrible three days

Posted 8 Jul 2018
Pros: THe permanent staff who were desperately fighting a losing battle.
Cons: Virtually everything
Location: well located
What a shame about this lovely looking hotel with beautiful grounds and pool. We arrived later than expected at 4.30pm and as non french speakers we had difficulty with the receptionist who is also the owner as she didn't speak one word of English which is a bit daft as your first contact. WE were taken to our room and were stopped entering as the room had not been cleaned or changed at4.30pm!!! The room was a horrible little cell which also three staff members described it as horrible too. We complained and were moved to a much nicer room with a terrace three times the size of our cell, but we could only have that room for 2 days.Oh,plus a supplement of 70 euros a day. after the two days we were sent back to another horrible little cell, which we found later were the staff quarters. The bathroom was quite frankly, disgusting. There was barely any staff around to ask any questions, no water or info in the rooms. We went to the bar for a drink. We ordered a Kir and a Campari. The waiter did not know any of these drinks although they were on the menu.We described them and he returned with the Kir which was a tumbler full of Cassis and a bottle of wine. The Campari and soda was ok, but nobody knew what soda water was. We knew something had gone deeply wrong as there were hardly any staff and were told by anyone we asked that they had only worked there two or four days. The food was edible and expensive, thats the best i can say.

Great hotel for a vacation dans la provence

Awesome hotel and location. It is directly located next to Ménerbes, which is a lovely village and definitely worth a trip. The staff was super friendly and the rooms very big and clean. Our private terrasse was superb! Unfortunately, we only stayed one night. Hope we can stay longer next time. Definitely recommendable.
