The bathrooms had hair all over shower, floor and bed. Room had stain on the floor that looked like blood.

This is an old hotel, deserving of an upgrade. The location is great. The staff was very pleasant, and willing to help with anything that I needed. Breakfast was just ok. Hotels and Pousadas in the NE of Brasil are famous for their breakfasts with fresh fruits, juices, tapioca, and a variety of breads and pastries. This one was just ok. If you came for breakfast by 9 am, the empty tray of scrambled eggs was left there with that sad look, along with the empty bowl of what was fruit salad... However, I felt secure, and had two weeks worth of good sleep, since the location is quiet at night.

The hotel is very basic. It's clean, but it needs an upgrade. The breakfast is basic too. Usually breakfasts in the Northeast of Brasil are the highlight of the hotel. Not this one. Very good location.

Satisfactory.

Pros: Location
Cons: Bathroom
Location: Right on the beach; interesting "board walk". Good restaurants. & shopping.
My stay at Praia Mar was satisfactory . Bathroom could use some updating . Location is outstanding.

The single worst hotel experience I've ever had

Pros: Absolutely nothing.
Cons: Everything - see above. They really need someone that can speak a language apart from portugese (either in management or at the front desk).
I travel often and am not exaggerating when I say this was the single worst hotel I have ever been to. We arrived and the hotel lobby was dingy with the smell of body odor. We were given our hotel key by the man at the desk and went up to our room. The ceiling of the hallway was low, the hallways were dark and dingy. Once in our room, the room light did not work. We had to go back down and get the maintenance man to come up to fix it. He literally jiggled the light socket on the ceiling and smacked it twice and it flickered on. After he left, we tried the air conditioner - it didn't work. The safe didn't work, and there were bugs on the bed. The TV (the only thing that turned on when we got there) had such poor definition you couldn't even read the text that came across the screen. After four or five interactions with the front desk we decided to go. When explaining to the man working the desk that we wanted our money back he simply said "no Ingles" and shrugged. I spent two hours on the phone with Expedia trying to get them to help out. Unfortunately, all he would do is pick up their calls, say "No Ingles" and hang up on them. I am currently out $1,050 and have been working with expedia on getting some kind of refund. It is unclear if the hotel is refusing to do so, or if they simply cannot communicate with expedia, or some combination of the two. This has been my worst hotel experience to date, I would strongly encourage anyone and everyone to search elsewhere.

Old building, but nice people

Hi, The hotel is well located, but is very old, very very old. Actually the hotel is under construction and they woke us up about 8am, two days. The hotel was under construction and the noise was so loud that we were not able to (sleep, watch tv, talk, rest etc) they work for 4-6 hours each day. When I get back I will request expedia to give me some money back. The staff is very nice and willing to help but they cannot perfom better if they give them a crapy infraestructure.

Hotel Praia Mar, Fortaleza

Our room was on the 1st floor (above the reception). The room was not nice at all. It was noisy because there were much happening in the evenings at the street Beira Mar.
