Very interesting old architecture.
Our biggest complaint - the dining room staff acted like this was some 3-star Michelin place. Food was mediocre. Service was THE WORST. Service all had their noses in the air. In the evening, 4 people basically standing around doing little. We were the 2nd people in. Watched them ignore us, and go take orders for everyone else. My wife got up and walked out, and asked why they were ignoring us. They actually did us a favor. We drove to Mealhada, and found an ACTUAL Michelin-starred restaurant that was infinitely superior to the hotel restaurant, as well as cheaper. Only staff worthwhile was a woman who covered breakfast BY HERSELF, and did an excellent job.

Outstanding historical property located on a high elevation with exceptional views. The staff went above & beyond to make our stay perfect. The restaurant on site serves delicious food. They have a full bar & massive historic lounge area. The sunsets were amazing & the extra deep & long bathtub was a joy after a long day. The furniture is antique & isn’t meant for people that like Marriott style rooms.

Beautifully ornate property. Very impressive decor throughout the common areas. Lots of good walking trails around the palace. The rooms are basic however and the food was abysmal.

For a 5 star hotel, it was rather shabby and sad. However, an interesting stay in a unusual and unique hotel.

This is a very old property with all the old world charm. We stayed there for one night and loved it. Beautiful grounds, hiking trails around the hotel.
