We had a nice stay at the Square & Compass. The staff were friendly and the main pub area was great and is clearly a nice local place for people to meet. The room itself was a good size for the length of stay. If I am being very critical a few areas of maintenance are needed but otherwise would recommend

Stayed at The Square and Compass for two nights as I was attending an event in Bakewell nearby. It is a very budget friendly property, but not at the expense of cleanluness or an extremely warm welcome.
Fantastic cooked breakfast both mornings, really set me up for the day. Great staff and the landlord and landlady very friendly and chatty.
Would have no hesitation in returning next time I was staying in the area.

We stayed at the Square & Compass Inn for three nights and have a brilliant time!
The owners are super nice and relaxed. We had a cooked breakfast every morning which was spot on. We asked for crispy bacon and it was done to perfection.
I understand that they've had a tough time with multiple floodings but you couldn't tell as the place looked great. Overall would definitely stay again.

Warm, comfortable and good food. Needs a fresh-up.
Our stay was overall very comfortable and extremely enjoyable due to the friendly and helpful Simon and staff. The only minor downside was that the carpet in our room hadn't been vacuumed and the shower head was broken. These things could have been addressed prior to our arrival if proper checks had been made.
Never again. That says it all. Staff very friendly and helpful but rooms are dire.

Old, traditional decor, comfy bed.
Friendly staff. Easy to park. Good location for driving around the beautiful area. Our compact room was at the front of the Inn, and it's on a busy road, so we kept the secondary glazing closed. Shower head needed maintenance, so we informed the staff...I assume it will have been sorted now! Good full English Breakfast included in the very reasonable price.
Place was run down and dirty. We stayed in 2 rooms as first one the key got stuck for electric. The first room was dirty, looked liked it hadn’t been cleaned or hoovered. Toilet wouldn’t flush. The second room we had to take our bedding from the first one into there and there was bugs in there and same as the first it was dirty toilet didn’t flush, looked like it hadn’t been hoovered again and the water was dark brown. Writing on the wallpaper too. Cracks in walls and ceiling and wallpaper was all ripped. Friendly staff but we won’t be staying again.

The staff were polite friendly, I would recommend this for a few nights stay, breakfast was really good, there was an evening menu that looked good 10/10
Absolutely horrible. The food was terrible and under cooked. My egg still had the "snotty" runny bit because it was so undercooked, the mushrooms were raw on the inside and burnt on the outer. No breakfast menu, so we had no idea what was available, it was only on the second morning we heard cereal was on offer. Dog poo on display for all to see in the garden. No hot water on our second night. The heating made a horrible banging noise all through the night. I even tried to look for accommodation for our second night just so we could check out early. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Our weekend was spoiled and I felt let down by the catering.

Lovely place to stay biker friendly . Brilliant roads for riding on the door step . Really nice breakfast good local beer .
Old, tired building in need of tender, loving care. Boiler downstairs was going off all night, no toiletries in room, dripping tap and water pressure was non existent in shower or when flushing the toilet.
